As bios go, this one is pretty difficult to write because what do you say about a group shrouded in anonymity? The Underground Ensemble hail from London. That much we do know. Rumour has it they spent their former years as your average superhero sidekicks until the day they realised they had a bigger purpose in life: to create a superhero soundtrack.

Ask Melissa Hollick, featured vocalist on 'Broken Wings' and 'Ethereal', and she'll tell you about cryptic calls and midnight messages requesting her angelic voice. Ask July Jones, singer on 'Women Wonder Why', about The Underground Ensemble. She'll tell you her only contact was with the EP's producers, Two Twenty Two Music, who had one simple instruction: power.

"Who are The Underground Ensemble? We don't know," says producer, Tom Nettleship. "We reckon they travel around London jam nights in hoods, meeting at disused tube stations in candlelight - lots of great acoustics down there, apparently."

There's a distinctively Bristolian sound, reminiscent of Massive Attack and Portishead but in a more contemporary setting - Submotion Orchestra meets Florence and the Machine. The Underground Ensemble fit comfortably in the cinematic soundscape movement, making it easy to imagine their orchestration, synths and amphonic textures accompanying Lorde's next venture into film trailers.
