Solid Steel in association with Serato (25th December) The competition has closed and the votes have been counted for the Solid Steel Mix of the Year 2015 and we clearly ended the year on a high, as the two most popular mixes both came from December. 
There were two clear frontrunners that took most of the votes and it was the Modeselektor mix from the beginning of December that you decided was Mix of the Year 2015, with Jon 1st as a close runner up.


We welcomed back Jon 1st to Solid Steel for his personal highlights of 2015. It was a staggering 63 track mix of music that he's been playing out over the year, plus a few chilled favourites from 2015. Solid Steel Radio Show 25/12/2015 Hour 2 - Jon 1st

Solid Steel in association with Serato (8th January) It's another label takeover this week with Axel Boman and Kornél Kovács from Studio Barnhus sharing deck duties. Alongside Petter Nordkvist they've been running the Swedish label since 2010 and we get a taste of some forthcoming Studio Barnhus material. Their productions, remixes and DJ sets have always been of the highest quality and it's no exception this week. Axel Boman takes care of Hour 1 and he told us;

"I usually record mixes with stuff from my vinyl collection because i dont have cdjs. i think its good that i dont have them since it forces me to be creative with that format. but sometimes i miss being able to mix unreleased stuff so i decided to go outside of my comfort zone on this one. not too far outside since i used ableton and 2 channels on my e&s mixer so it felt vaguely familiar. the music is mostly Studio Barnhus related stuff, some upcoming releases and some golden oldies. a big thank you to Young Marco for the intro track, of course it takes a dutchman at redlight records to dig up the best swedish music, haha."

Solid Steel in association with Serato (11th March) We welcome Brooklyn based producer The Range to Solid Steel this week. His new album Potential, which is out on Domino on 25th March, has him utilising some of the less viewed clips of amateur vocalists alongside his own electronic productions to great effect. His mix is full of classic dance tunes from the mid to early 90's, leaning heavily on the awesome R and S label. He told us;
"For this mix I wanted to reach back to a point in time that I missed musically as I was too young but proved an interesting part of the last twelve months for me. These songs gradually crept into my psychology during the process of making Potential and while I don't think they are explicitly reflected in the music on the album I am glad to have an opportunity to showcase the spirit of the songs that I think express an aspiration of feeling good."

Solid Steel in association with Serato (20th May) In Hour 1 we're delighted to welcome back Lone to Solid Steel for his 3rd time on the show. He first appeared in 2007 as part of Kids In Tracksuits and then again as Lone in 2009, and you can hear both mixes at SolidSteel.net . Lone's albums and live sets have touched a lot of musical ground. He's demonstrated his long-standing love of 90s hip hop, passing penchant for the bright lights and sounds of hardcore alongside his career defining old school house releases. All steeped in nostalgia whilst bringing a dance floor ready sound from the in-between places of your consciousness, making you feel warm and fuzzy without quite knowing why. His latest mix for Solid Steel perfectly showcases what his club sets are sounding like and he had this to say about his mix;
"I wanted to put together a club friendly mix for Solid Steel, something containing a bunch of the sort of tunes I'm playing out at the moment. Having said that, I didn't want to go completely one way like that, so I tried to put something together that could work just as easily as a home listening mix - it was fun trying to bridge that gap. I also saw this as a good excuse to showcase a bunch of forthcoming material from our MagicWire label, so there's quite a few exclusives here... even some stuff I'm working on under a different name...."

They are cofounders of the Berlin based label Box Aus Holz and have also seen releases on Tartelet Records and Money $ex (alongside releases from Max Graef and Glenn Astro), with the Three Turtles EP from Kickflip Mike and Julius Conrad being the most recent.
