A surefire provider in Amsterdam’s well-furnished techno community, Hitam has been making a name for himself with some choice platters for the likes of SYXT, Hayes and Room Trax over the last couple of years. Championing a sound as ebulliently driving as it invites us to dip our toes into further hazy sonic grounds, the Dutch producer swings the pendulum betwixt racing 909-fuelled horsepower and more subdued, fearsome climates. As ever clinical in his approach and deadly in his execution, Hitam has us tripping out to a hefty-handed two hours of relentless tech rage and hypnotic sound design laced into one smouldering hodgepodge of whelming, non-stop gusty sonics. Not for the faint-hearted.

Philippa Pacho is back on Bassiani airwaves for Podcast 178. The dynamic artist behind positivesource and STHLM Murder Girls knows a thing or two about setting a crowd in motion. Her shapeshifting beats and unmatched energy fast making her a household name far outside her native Sweden and more recent Berlin base. Her residency at Stockholm mainstay Under Bron is about a decade old, but there’s not even so much as a suggestion of hesitancy or weariness in her work, carrying a passion that’s infectious, and as palpable in a club as it is on screen (check out her recent sets on Hör). Her Techno really is powerful stuff, a sustained sonic onslaught, an unyielding beast, hulking and formidable but also smart. For many DJs whose sound is so heavily reliant on bass to carry forth their message, a slip into monotony wouldn’t be entirely unpredictable, but Philippa’s cunning use of supporting effects and melody keeps even a 6 hour journey like this one interesting from start to finish. This up and coming doyenne of loop Techno really is a force like no other.

Born in Sweden but operating out of Berlin, Philippa Pacho has been making waves in the scene as of late, notably amassing a stream of incendiary performances at some of the world’s finest (and most demanding) clubs, including Bassiani and Fuse. Herald of a fast-paced, no-surrender type of DJing, all eyes set on bringing crowds to a simmer thru and thru, Philippa muscles her way across various techno sub-genres and rhythms with conviction and poise, alternatively pushing classic Detroit-influenced material, Nordic minimalism and more Continental European-informed expressions, as she harnesses the very best of these through uncompromising selections with a pristine mixing technique. Amsterdam based DJ MARRØN’s name comes from the enslaved Marrons, who centuries ago, cast off their chains and went to live in the forests of Suriname. Inspired by Afro Deep and a number of great names in the history of Motor City beats, as well as more recent incarnations on the other side of the Atlantic, MARRØN’s sound is aptly liberating and reasserts the foundational link between african rhythms and techno. It’s a hypnotising onslaught of beats with which to lose yourself for a few hours in a sweaty basement. Though it was during the pandemic, under a different format, that his podcast series took off full tilt and gave him the platform to play the former. Nowadays his purist sets have their home at Sunday jaunt Eerste Communie, a community building mission and event series he started with a group of friends, with extra bookings all over the map. Key to his sets is something he describes as ‘constant energy flow’, a kind of forward-pitched rhythmic momentum that keeps him and his attendant crowds going. Simple but powerful and expertly devised, overlapping rhythms delivered in high definition and a mile a minute. Bassiani Podcast 212 is 69 minutes of meticulously crafted textures and seductively layered beats from this decidedly gifted mainstay of the Amsterdam scene.
