Ahead of his Glitch Festival debut, we invite @Altinbas for this week's Glitch podcast. Renowned for his craftsmanship both as a DJ and a producer, his releases on renowned labels like Token Records, SK11 and Non Series is proof of his high quality musical output. For the next 73 minutes, Altinbas crafts a distinctive and enduring composition of dynamic hypnotic soundscapes featuring varying phases of tension, moods and emotions that transcend time.

France’s proliferation of techno talent is hard to contest these days, but Mathys Lenne’s here in case you had any doubts. The DJ/producer also goes by The Scan, and makes up half of Classic Blue, pushing forward a steely vision of the genre that’s both shrewd and quick as a whippet. Alongside projects on HAYES, his beats have shown up too as vinyl EP on Blue Hour’s eponymous record label as well as a debut LP on Dutch powerhouse MORD (2023). It’s a hard hitting genus of techno that borrows from the layered and cognitive approach employed by forebears Efdemin and Float Records label boss TWR72. He’s been busy, and found a powerful voice he spends night after night bringing to dancefloors and headphones alike. For Bassiani Podcast 206, the francophone techno envoy weaves a complex mesh of warped kicks that doesn’t let up for a second, a building tension only someone with faculties as sharp as his could successfully maintain. If this is the first time you’ve heard his name you’d be wise to take note, with an ear like his, little can stop him.

Bassiani invites Mathys Lenne / Podcast #206

Sam Coates took to techno like a diligent pupil, falling in love with the genre through labels like CLR in the late '00s. It didn't take long for the student to surpass his proverbial teachers. Almost immediately, the Manchester native was putting out pitch-perfect, functional techno records with everything intricately balanced. The requisite move to Berlin only sealed his fate as a future techno luminary, and by now, based in Kyiv, he's one of techno's most reliable, yet exciting, workhorses. Setaoc Mass records (and those on his label, SK_eleven) are minimalist but colossal, deceptively simple but not easy to pull off. 

We've praised him in these pages for his "sense of economy—how to get the hardest impact out of just a few elements," and that's the idea behind his RA Podcast as well. Put together from records old and new, and intricately layered, Coates's mix is like a time-travelling wormhole connecting disparate eras from techno, and highlighting the genre's most timeless attributes: mechanistic rhythms, careful pacing, rudimentary melodies made out of the strangest sounds and, of course, the power of the bass drop. It's hard to imagine anything that sounds more capital-T techno than this mix, which is a high compliment. It's easy to hear why his records and DJ sets are only more in demand from techno heads across the geographical and generational spectrum.

Fresh from BRET, this weeks podcast is Red Rooms’s three hour long set in the infamous red box.

Red Rooms has become a notable DJ and producer in the last few years, with multiple EP releases a year since 2020, on labels such as Õtomo, Planet Rhythm, Drawner Records and Aesir Records. His own music focusses on minimalism and trippy groove. This style can also clearly be heard throughout his sets.

One of the most active players shaping contemporary Techno, Temudo has developed his own vocabulary creating a unique trademark sound.

His interpretation of the genre is made through a clinical approach, blending the soul of the genre with a modern and unorthodox methodology. With the rare ability to absorb and express different moods keeping the same signature sound, he manages to have the seal of a wide spectrum of labels like Klockworks, Blueprint, Soma or Warm Up - whose work speaks for itself.

As a DJ the sharp vision remains, delivering a fast paced eclectic journey with music from different time frames mixed in an coherent and elegant way. He’s one of the minds behind Hayes and runs his own Mastering Studio.

Born in Sweden but operating out of Berlin, Philippa Pacho has been making waves in the scene as of late, notably amassing a stream of incendiary performances at some of the world’s finest (and most demanding) clubs, including Bassiani and Fuse. Herald of a fast-paced, no-surrender type of DJing, all eyes set on bringing crowds to a simmer thru and thru, Philippa muscles her way across various techno sub-genres and rhythms with conviction and poise, alternatively pushing classic Detroit-influenced material, Nordic minimalism and more Continental European-informed expressions, as she harnesses the very best of these through uncompromising selections with a pristine mixing technique. Shockwave incoming.
