July’s here and it’s not about to relent with our special summery treat, all set at cranking up the heat up two or three notches. Time to kit up and turn on the cooler. Throughout the month of July, RYC teams up with the Georgian monument of techno that is Bassiani to bring you a healthy diet of weekly mixes courtesy of its amazing cast of residents. Revving up the engines, Ndrx strikes first with two hours of his mind and body-entrancing pyrotechnics. Creator of bespoke floor narratives that defy the laws of gravity, Ndrx will have you whirling off into orbit thanks to his ever-reliable instinct for selection and a laser-guided precision in DJing. Diving deep into origami-esque dub folds and drilling his way farther across squelchy, 90s-informed uptempo territories, the Tbilisi maestro casts out nines as to his Bassiani stalwart status, exemplifying his levels of floor-destroying abilities with utmost boldness and panache. One for the hall of fame.

Second Tbilisi-based resident to grace our special Bassiani x RYC summer collab, Nebbieri steps in with two hours of straight mind-altering material for the buffs. A deluge of uptempo alien wares and left-of-centre breaksy manoeuvres blended with homing hi-tech warheads, Nebbieri’s delivery takes no byway to get its message across. As with all Bassiani in-house jockeys, she undoubtedly masters the art of transition and radical tempo switches to perfection, and the ruthlessly addictive buildups she unreels here attests to her magnificent mixing skills and unfaltering resolution in wreaking absolute havoc wherever she gets to play at. Beware an atomic summer with Oppenheimer coming to theaters mid-July. Meanwhile here’s Nebbieri nuking out the competition, clean and tidy.

Philippa Pacho is back on Bassiani airwaves for Podcast 178. The dynamic artist behind positivesource and STHLM Murder Girls knows a thing or two about setting a crowd in motion. Her shapeshifting beats and unmatched energy fast making her a household name far outside her native Sweden and more recent Berlin base. Her residency at Stockholm mainstay Under Bron is about a decade old, but there’s not even so much as a suggestion of hesitancy or weariness in her work, carrying a passion that’s infectious, and as palpable in a club as it is on screen (check out her recent sets on Hör). Her Techno really is powerful stuff, a sustained sonic onslaught, an unyielding beast, hulking and formidable but also smart. For many DJs whose sound is so heavily reliant on bass to carry forth their message, a slip into monotony wouldn’t be entirely unpredictable, but Philippa’s cunning use of supporting effects and melody keeps even a 6 hour journey like this one interesting from start to finish. This up and coming doyenne of loop Techno really is a force like no other.

Dishing out his own part - and what a choice cut! - of the Bassiani gospel through the RYC waves this week, Georgian wizard Kancheli fires off a stupendous two-hour round of his immersive take on techno music, beautifully merging cinematic depth of field with hi-impact kinetic grooves. A former percussionist and Jazz head, Kancheli flexes the width of his musical palette to compelling effect, clashing full-blown functional DJ tools against abstract-adjacent flights to form his own dynamic yet hypnotic dance grammar away from normative constraints and ephemeral fads. The result is a bumpy, shape-shifting masterclass of a mix, bridging the gap betwixt proper floor-focussed explosiveness and more inward-gazing extrapolations. Complex and refined, a techno work of art.

This next mix comes courtesy of Berlin based Radical Softness, and with a name lent by the homonymous praxis, activism here is par for the course. The Rawmantique and Tilt resident delivers exactly what the label on the tin says: an embrace of the emotional inner self and a celebration of freedom and self-expression, with a special focus on FLINTA visibility. The music? Through this medium their aim is to explore that emotional inner world as a means of bringing communities together be they in Germany or Pakistan. The mission is clear, the music a little harder, at least for this latest instalment: this is no holds barred techno with a nod to trance. Percussive mayhem, a boundless form of resistance expressed through juggernaut beats and future-ready synths. A primal sound through which the methodology of presence and vulnerability can allow us to meet ourselves and others on dancefloors across the world. Closing the chapter of our Bassiani takeover for July, here comes Tbilisi’s Kvanchi, providing the very kind of fire we needed to top off a month of Georgian heat over at RYC. Infused with deeper Detroit tech flavors and strains of effusive acid hoodoo, Kvanchi’s mixes are testaments to the old-school sound, all set at bringing dance floors to a simmer through nonstop bouncy momentums and bespoke soulful selections. True to this approach, Kvanchi’s RYC podcast keeps it buoyant from start to finish, as it nimbly navigates the frontier between hi-NRG house traction from back in the day, electroid / breaks-heavy charges and a touch of ghetto-tech-informed irreverence. Clearly toasting to the Motor City’s heritage, a most fitting wrap-up to that longed-for Bassiani x RYC takeover. We hope you enjoyed the journey as much as we did.
