Closing the chapter of our Bassiani takeover for July, here comes Tbilisi’s Kvanchi, providing the very kind of fire we needed to top off a month of Georgian heat over at RYC. Infused with deeper Detroit tech flavors and strains of effusive acid hoodoo, Kvanchi’s mixes are testaments to the old-school sound, all set at bringing dance floors to a simmer through nonstop bouncy momentums and bespoke soulful selections. DASCO is a hurricane force with recent roots in Berlin, active for the past decade and packing as strong a punch today as she ever has. That’s as true of her music as it is her persona. She has the kind of rare, contagious energy that’s capable of setting dancefloors ablaze: animated, celebratory and full of joie de vivre. As DJ, she draws from the wells of Chicago house and UR, as much as 90s UK rave: dispatching rhythms from the booths at Tresor, Panorama Bar, RSO, Bristol’s Motion and many more. As producer, she’s released records on the likes of Shall Not Fade and pushed her own vision via her recently launched Bisexuality Exists imprint (2022). Catchy name and it serves a purpose. Through her music, DASCO wants to lift people up, that includes people like herself who identify as bisexual and see a frequent tendency towards bi erasure: ‘With the label, I would like to show the world that music - like life - is rarely ever black or white.’ The label’s first release was the acid influenced Get High With Me, featuring her own vocals and a slew of punchy 90s beats - an attempt to bottle the feeling of dancefloor rapture that washes over a crowd every time she plays. She’s here again spreading love and positive vibes for Bassiani Podcast 201.
