Pianeti Sintetici ('synthetic planets' in Italian) is a new conceptual project by Davide Perrone (Primal Code) that draws inspiration from the factories of Magrathea, a planet in Douglas Adams' classic space opera The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, where artificial planets are manufactured on commission.

“This concept has always fascinated me, and I chose the name to frame a hypothetical future of synthetic worlds, told with sound,' Davide says. 'I like to imagine the howls of creatures inhabiting solar systems outside our own. Rarefied atmospheres, alien sequences, and unfamiliar tonal scales. So, I see Pianeti Sintetici as an open-ended design research project where I can explore these inspirations.”

Pianeti Sintetici already has three stand out releases on the legendary Hypnus records and has played a string of mind bending shows, including this mix, which is a live set from the 2023 edition of Positive Education. You may be familiar with the work of Reeko, the Pole Group co-founder and Spanish auteur whose furious techno has expanded the definitions of his genre and piqued clubfloors over the last decade; Juan Rico’s alias has galvanised the world of electronic music like few can. Over the course of his active years he’s worked on a parallel body of work under the pseudonym Architectural, at first in the shadows of anonymity, now coming into the light. Through this second epithet he channels a more fluid sound, one that uses much of the same percussive scaffolding but goes deeper. The project began back in 2010 with a string of releases on his self-titled and newly pressed label and the 2012 release of Peacetime on Semantica Records, cementing his rise as a deft and mysterious talent from the Asturian coast. The intrigue continued with a fusing of his two projects in 2013, a Reeko and Architectural release on his native Pole Group entitled The Blue Album, a dialogue between the two visions, harsh kicks of the first fused with the trailing reverb of the latter. The next two years saw a pair of releases develop the sound he’d built via his own label and Dutch imprint Wolfskull. In tandem, his sets at Tresor, Printworks, Robert Johnson, Bassiani, Awakenings and his local festival LEV have brought his heavy atmospherics to a wider audience. His sound is primal, dubby and immersive, the output of many years of sonic research and collaboration, paced-out and rich with intelligent details. Here, for one of the most important mixes in this long running series, comes Bassiani Podcast 252, a truly singular piece recorded back in November from this paragon of experimental techno.

A few months after our successful Saüle debut, here we go again for a second round of genre-busting, boundary-pushing sonic exploration. Embracing the Idea of techno as a means of transcending our condition, both as conscious and subconscious beings, this series offers a platform for artists to express themselves with enhanced scope and purpose. For this second installment which will take place on 5 June, RYC invites a trio of musicians who’ve been pushing the envelope of techno and electronics to a broader extent. A name synonymous with bold dynamics and cutting-edge approach, London-based producer Jin Synth will take us on a mind-bending ride down her intricate rhythmic algebra and layers of hypnotic, otherworldly sonics. A jack-of-all-trades whose hybrid, unhindered vision for music has driven to all ends of the techno spectrum, the one and only DJ Pete will join us for a hectic parade of breaks-laden, bass-heavy weapons and dubbed-out tangents. Chief explorer of lushly textured folds and immersive cinematic arcs, dub techno maestro Magna Pia will take over the decks for one of those moments on the dance floor when functional innovation fuses with multi-sensory exaltation.

DJ Sodeyama’s been around since the 90s, a Tokyo-based whizz and DJ’s DJ, whose career has offered the type of sound many selectors would envy. It’s incredibly sharp, meandering along its intelligent thread in unexpected and high-minded ways. Since the early noughties he could add producer to his soubriquet too, flexing his minimal muscle with early releases, a steady stream of ensuing ventures further cementing his craft via Korean-based deep techno distributor Artscope, Dynamic Reflection, illegal alien, Daybreak and many more. He’s also explored adjacent genres and ventured into the world of house under his parallel alias The People In Fog. Pretty full plate, but the quality of his sound has suffered nothing for it. His techno is an expert tapestry of interlaced details and lingering moods, injected with raw feeling and undeniable skill. It darts from peak to peak, fusing frequencies riddled with forward-pitched elements and vivid effects, and forges a long-range feeling that abuts the realm of both man and machine. Thick and volatile techno that serves as proof that the genre can keep expanding outwards in fresh and surprising ways. Bassiani Podcast 260 moves the needle further, it's quintessential Sodeyama: vivid climbs and steep descents, warped vocal samples, brave and unbending beats for prime-time raving.

This time our guest on CBDSH series is Viels from Italy with a fabulous outer space mix! Known for his superb productions on established techno labels and music selections as a DJ, this mix a showcase in deepness that fits the ethos of DSH like a glove. Drop everything else for the next 69 minutes and enjoy the ride.

Bio:
Class 1990, Viels was born in a little city outside Milan (Italy). Early in his adolescence he discovered techno culture inspired by a book called “TECHNO“ by Christian Zingales. Having released his first Ep on Initial Berlin in 2015, Viels continued his musical path appearing with a track on the well respected dutch imprint Dynamic Reflection, followed by his debut ep “Distrophism” and contributing for the 10 years anniversary of the label, among some of the most recognised artists in the scene : Donato Dozzy, Mike Parker, Shifted, Oscar Mulero, Blawan, Ness, Jeroen Search and many more.
Co-owner with Francesco della Sala of “End Of Perception”, Viels just released also on label such Warm Up, Non Series, Mord, and Semantica Records.
At the moment he is resident of the Acquario party in Milano and an active part of the organization of it.
With an increasing interest and having performed in quality clubs like Tresor, Perron, Cassette, Schron and shared the booth with the likes of Oscar Mulero, Svreca and Dasha Rush to name a few, Viels is establishing himself as part of a new wave of djs and producers approaching the contemporary techno scene.
