"This mix is basically a collection of nostalgia influenced pieces, weightless productions and scores that have stuck with me. I've always thought a lot of the music used in games is very underrated in terms of their depth and ideas and doing this mix gave me the opportunity to include some of my favourites. One in particular is a game called "Tyrian" - a space-shooter filled with mad colours and beams and has this weird tragic storyline. I based the premise of the mix behind this - its about being lost in space but still feeling content and somewhat close to home. Hope you enjoy it." Dark0

"Dark sounds let me explore unknown and hidden feelings. For me, darkness isn't scary, it's mysterious and powerful. I want to create a deep, hypnotic atmosphere.and feel like diving into shadows, not avoiding them." This quote from Shintarø Kanie, one of the finest contemporary Japanese techno producers, crystallizes not only his personal musical philosophy but also vividly parallels the deep Japanese cultural appreciation of shadows, mystery, and darkness. While Western cultures make a habit out of brightness and the elimination of shadow from both space and life, the Japanese make an artform out of cultivating and exploring the substance of the unseen. This is expressed powerfully within Shintarø Kanie's music, which possessed a supernatural, ethereal, ghostly character, constituting an irreducivly unique sound in the globa fabric of techno. His music is a vehicle for existential journeys into haunted spaces. In this episode we begin by positioning Kanie's music within the wider Japanese cultural and musical context and then have a short conversation about his approach before entering into a engulfing 30min mix of his music. Ghetto89 is the new project of Artem Volyk — DJ, producer, sound designer, and event organizer from Kyiv. With over 20 years in music, he has developed a unique approach that blends club energy with refined, detail-oriented sound design. Artem is also known for his projects Selecta, DF90, and Modent, and in 2020 he founded the collective and label OBSKURA.

The sound of Ghetto89 merges elements of techno, house, and experimental music, with a focus on rhythmic depth and hypnotic atmospheres. Since 2015, Artem has been collaborating with the fashion and contemporary art industries, creating music and sound design for international fashion weeks, designer brands, and art events.

As a promoter and curator, he has organized independent parties and collaborated with major festivals and venues — including Atlas Weekend, Green Theatre, Closer, Otel, RiverPort — while performing across Europe and Asia.

In the studio and behind the decks, Artem’s approach is defined by attention to detail, emotional depth, and a distinctive sonic identity. His portfolio spans sonic branding, sound design, and composition for Ukrainian and international brands across fashion, tech, and lifestyle industries.
