A one hour of original unreleased compositions made especially for recordat #0031 by @basel-naouri , aired first on May 15th, 2021 as part of the Sonic Liberation Front, an initiative for Palestine by a group of audio platforms and sound artists who came together to unify their sound for Palestine and protest against the ethnic cleansing of the Palestinian people.

Basel Naouri is a musician, producer and designer of sound and spatial media. His music does not commit to a specific genre and ranges from deep house to experimental and ambient soundscapes with Arab influence. He is a multi-instrumentalist who fuses sounds from samples and instruments to mold immersive stories of a tactile and detailed nature. In his other work, Basel is interested in translating natural systems and behaviors into immersive experiences through the design of multisensory media spaces. Basel works with diverse media on architectural, interior and sound design projects.

This is the 31st session of a series of sessions Recordat is hosting on Radio Alhara every other Sunday.

TPS 053 - KARIŞIK LOKUM KUTUSU - Turkish record Selections by WoMu Vin

"Karışık Lokum Kutusu" translates to "A box of assorted Turkish delights", which I thought would be a fitting name to describe the variety of tracks in this all-vinyl mix recorded from OG Turkish records from the 70s and 80s, with a variety of styles including (but not limited to) modern takes on Anatolian folk, funk-infused pop and Arabesque. The mix features several artists including Arif Sağ, Zafer Dilek, Yıldıray Çınar and Hakkı Bulut, all of whom were highly influential in reinterpreting and modernising the music they performed and produced for other artists.

I am dedicating this mix to the dearly missed Mads Nimann Jensen (Instagram @madsnimann) whom we lost a year ago to the day (October 13th) as a result of terminal cancer. In losing Mads we lost a legendary collector, but more importantly, a legendary human being (anyone who has ever been in contact with him will know exactly what I mean by that).

We collaborated with Palestinian sound platform Zilzal to host what was to become a listening session for Le Guess Who's local programme U?

Due to the bombings in Gaza at the time, the artists took the opportunity to express their current mental situation, and thus the evening at the former Pieter Baan Centre turned out a lot more energetic and emotional. We were really happy to be able to provide a platform for the artists to express themselves, and we could not have asked for a better crowd <3

Tuning out: A 1 hour Recordat listening session was aired on Radio alHara Wednesday, July 8, As part of a 75-hour program where more than 75 artists protested against the annexation of the Palestinian land by the Israeli occupation.

This mix is the first chapter of our new project, Recordat sonic narratives. Here, we begin our journey exploring intense sonic atmospheres filled with frustration and reflection.
