Ben Rodd - Inner Club [AS ONE]

The eighth step in the Breathecast programme is brought to you by an - until recently - hidden gem from the 90s who has acquired reps from all over the world, reps that are long overdue.  We give you Scott Featherstone aka Lemmon Grass aka Triform aka Beyond A Void, hardware virtuoso and boss of Deeper Audio Cuts and Jupiter (the label not the planet).

Previously only known to a handful of diggers and veteran rave folk alike, his records became highly sought after due to their minimal pressings. Then out of nowhere, a repress on the don Luca Lozano’s Elegal offshoot entered the underground fray last month, featuring two Lemmon Grass classics as well as two previously unheard tunes recorded in the same era. His Triform alias has also been reborn and staunchly revitalised with an EP on Desyn’s new Faciendo label. Recently raved about by none other than god-tier publication Trommel, the Vinaloop record got its first outing at A’DAM Toren to a rapturous reception, cultivating mystique thereafter throughout the various underground music ID groups of Facebook. Uniting the new generation with the old guard, the cries for a ‘Track ID!!?’ were eventually silenced via news of the record, in doing so interspersing Scott’s considerable talent further afield into the waiting outside world. 

With many more releases planned for next year, including a further outing on Faciendo and a (keep this to yourselves) re-issue of his Glorious Springtime EP, Scott put his bustling schedule aside for little old us and created a sexy mix of bleepy, acid tinged 90s magic in which every single track flowed forth from his fingertips. We feel blessed to be an additional sonic vestibule, sharing this man’s old-yet-new school brilliance as far as we can.

Winter is coming and Berlin is experiencing a second lockdown since the start of the pandemic to the beginning of the year. 

Oh what a year it could have been, looking back to February when we started into 2020 with a big bang, hosting the first of six of our showcase parties at Wilde Renate that turned out to be the first and only one for this year. 

We could fall into the depression of self-pity and only focus on what could have been, but we would not be Loser Records if we could not laugh at our failures, take a step back and enjoy the bright side of things. 

Hands-down, one of our favorite moments of 2020 was to have Mountain People on board as a headliner for our showcase party and enjoying a wild night together at the green floor of Wilde Renate. So we thought let’s refreshen our memories, focus ourselves in the positive parts of 2020 and invite The Mountain People for this month's podcast, which is their first home DJ mix in years.

The Mountain People are a Swiss DJ and producer duo consisting of Serafin and Andre Rozzo and managed to gain a cult status in the scene, mainly known for their extraordinary releases on their same name label.

Even though the high times of minimal house seem over these days, The Mountain People constantly proves that minimal house can be timeless if you carefully add the right ingredients into the mix. And the right ingredients they most certainly found since early on: Hypnotic percussions, deep and dubby grooves, rolling baselines and modulating filters and reverbs just in the right spot at the right time. Every single release on their label feels timeless in deed and comes with a 100% guarantee to keep the dance floor going, presented on a proper sound system that is capable of handling the deep end of their compositions.

So it does not come with a big surprise that they are not only excellent as producers, but as DJs as well. Their rather rare DJ sets never disappoint, hypnotizing the crowd by delivering seamless transitions and pulling it into a deep, mind alerting bubble of sound that you will not want to escape any time soon.

We feel humbled to have The Mountain People on board for or podcast series and hope to meet again in person, once the pandemic has settled.
