Once in a while you come across something of extraordinary quality by pure coincidence. This occurred when Rodney from the Woods attended an event a couple months back and got in touch with the friendly Julius, who appears to be a huge contributor to the scene and, above all, a likeminded soul to the Stately sound. 

Having spent years collecting records and being a dedicated admirer to the scene, Julius has over time mastered the craft himself as well, which he proves by delivering this stellar mix to our podcast series. It’s safe to say that this is one of the highest quality mixes on our channel so far.

Quadrant Soundscape presents In Focus 006

The 6th instalment of our In:Focus Series places the spotlight on one of our favourite labels and in our opinion one of the highest quality Dub Techno Labels on the planet. 

The Copenhagen based label is run and impeccably curated by the host of the legendary TweakFM show, Kvadrant aka Johnny Fredsgaard and unbelievably, based on the incredible output, was only established in 2017.

A Quick Look down the roster reads like the who’s who of the deep & Dub Techno world. Substance, Mike Schommer, Grad_U, Resoe, Ohm, VRIL, Rolando, JS Zeiter, Luke Hess, Octal Industries and many, many more. 

It’s safe to say there isn’t a bad release, every single record is a masterpiece. Often pressed in beautiful coloured vinyl and produced to the highest standard, these records really stand out.   The diversity found within the labels discography is testament to the curation of each release. 

This mix features less than half the total releases so its fair to say we’ll be back the re-visit the ones we’ve not played as there is still so much gold to showcase.

For the month of April's 'Live' mix we welcome 2 legends from the dub techno scene that we were super happy to welcome behind the Eastern Bloc Decks.

First up 'Ohm' (bjarnar jonsson) the Icelandic producer who has been heavily involved within the scene for the past 30 years steps up with releases on some of dub techno's biggest hitters including Thule records, Kontakt, Taped Artifact, Vade mecum, Vuo records and AE Recordings which he co-ran with Octal Industries and Thor from Thule Records. A label owner himself his 'Ohm Series' label has been steadily releasing music since 2021.

Alongside him 'Kvadrant' (Johnny Fredsgaard) a Danish producer who was a resident on the legendary TweakFM, and runs one of the most healthy and well respected dub techno labels out there currently- Kontakt records. With past artists including - Substance, Mike Schommer, Grad_U, Ohm, VRIL, JS Zeiter, Luke Hess & Octal Industries.

I'm sure you'll agree it's a beautifully put-together 4 hours of deep washy goodness.

" Myself and Johnny came over to honour an invite from our brothers in Music : Quadrant Soundscape. When we first came the place felt small, a little pub thing, but we felt good, the vibe in there just felt good. The hosts started playing some good tracks, the sound system felt big in such a small place. 

We started and it got packed, in such a way that it felt perfect to play some records for the crowd. I love small clubs with big systems and Eastern Bloc was the real deal. Four hours we played, one record at a time and the mood and vibe just kept building. Lots of happy people listening and dancing, it felt surreal and I would do it over and over again. "

Avenue Red Podcast welcomes Marseille-based DJ/artist Sarah Goldfarb for his debut mix on the series. Mastermind of the most hilarious and incisive techno scene memes (for which he is fast becoming uniquely infamous), he is best known to us for his scintillating, deep, shimmering, minimal, clicky micro house & techno releases pressed in the 2000's.

Many older Avenue Red heads will recall some of the important labels he graced, including: Riley Reinhold's Trapez Ltd; Treibstoff; Dumb-Unit; Curle Recordings; 200 Records; Toys For Boys Records and more. It's great to have him back, adding his fresh, zesty ideas once again to this rather murky and unusual realm of the underground. This mix is truly magical. Taste it.
