Scheme

Destroyer and Ridalin were recorded during the making of Lotus’s new album to be released this fall.  Working with Bill Moriarty (Dr. Dog, Man Man) and David Wrench (Caribou, Bat for Lashes) the band recorded a large batch of tracks over the last two years.  These are the first recordings from those sessions to be released.

Ridalin’s hip-hop swing, heavy bass and harmonized guitars construct the foundation for guest vocalist Monika Heidemann’s smoky vocals.  Melodies and counter-melodies are passed between guitar, synths and vocals taking Lotus’s signature sound to new places.  Heads will nod, subs will shake.

Feel Right (Crazy Daylight Refunk)

Instrumental post-rock and electronic dance band Lotus is set to release its third full-length studio album September 13th via SCI Fidelity Records. The self-titled album finds the band moving in a decidedly more electronic direction, while still staying true to their organic roots.  

Analog synthesizers, manipulated sounds, dub effects and heavy bass are balanced by horns and string arrangements in addition to Lotus’s standard guitar/bass/drums instrumentation. Grooves range from slinky funk and gritty half-time on the first half of the album to the beautiful and expansive closing track “Orchids.”

Although bits and pieces of vocals are used throughout, the only song to feature singing is “The Surf.” And while it may be the closest thing to a pop song the band has ever released, the melodic guitar hooks and ecstatic synth are pure Lotus.

My new EP "Khrysos" literally means "gold". I originally was inspired by this Golden Eagle that would make this epic "cawww" and fly around our house in Oakland, CA, which you'll find traces of hidden in the art and on the album. So the Latin name for Golden Eagle is "Aquila chrysaëtos" and the ancient Greek derivative of "chrysaëtos" is "khrysos" and literally means "gold". Hearkening back to the theme brought in on my last record, "Golden Tremendous", I stuck with it and took the mythology further, tapping into the greed of man and its ultimate destructiveness. This is a literal translation from an ancient Greek lyric poet named "Pindar" who lived from c. 522 - c. 443 BCE: "Khrysos (Gold) is a child of Zeus; neither moth nor rust devour it; but the mind of man is devoured by this supreme possession." 

Hope you enjoy this album when it drops (October 2nd), as it is the most progressive piece of art I've done yet with the height of my production skills culminating to this point so far. Shout out GRiZ for having me on his imprint label as well as Joshua Mays from Oakland, CA on the INCREDIBLE album art and shout out Jasha Space Jesus and Aaron Bleep Bloop for joining me on this adventure and remixing one of the songs, both of which will appear on the record.

PR: Horn and percussion trio Moon Hooch established an enduring bond with producer/vocalist Tonio Sagan after touring together in 2016, with Sagan later providing guest production on the group’s 2017 Light It Up EP. Now both parties are reconnecting for “Rise,” a hypnotic blend of live instrumentation and expertly crafted verses. Achieving the right balance of musicality and rhymes came in multiple phases - Moon Hooch and Sagan composed the instrumentals together, and Sagan later added more layers of sound design and production, including a live bass line performed by Chris Ball. The end result is a captivating and unique blend Moon Hooch’s unconventional upbeat dance music Sagan’s conscious rhymes. "Rise" is available now on all major streaming platforms.

Hey guys, here's a track me and my mate Dave have been working on, we're starting a live electro-glitch-swing band called "Wu-Li Masters". We need a trumpet/sax player so if anyone's interested please get in touch :) 

Wu-li means patterns of organic energy and nonsense in Chinese so we thought it would be an appropriate name!! The name is inspired by the book by Gary Zuvak called "The dancing Wu-li masters" Great read if you've never heard of it :)
