Albin & King Softy  present a collaborative mix made collage style, showcasing their diverse musical curation and commitment platforming their friends.

Albin and Amos (King Softy) first connected in 2018 after Albin, like many of us, became infatuated by the outputs of INDEX: Records. Since this time, the pair have shared musical worlds, ideas, time in the studio and a line up and trip to Poland. The mix is a result of these shared ideas and an opportunity to celebrate Amos’ forthcoming and much anticipated album to be released on @electromngr in late November.

King Softy is the alias of Amos Turner, the Aotearoa born, berlin-based artist, label head, graphic designer and Kwia resident. He is co-producer of the much loved Downstairs People project that explores ambient-forward altered states of pop and r&b. Amos’ creative projects have culminated as INDEX:Records which morphed into Appendix.Files, two record labels he co-founded between 2017 and 2019.

Brazilian DJ and Yellow Island Records label head Albin’s journey underground began in Belo Horizonte, where, at 14 he immersed himself in the psychedelic trance and house scenes, working with various collectives to occupy urban spaces, reframing and transforming their use. Now playing across Europe via his new home in Porto, Albin’s sound is inspired by deep rhythms, Latin sound, Ilian Tape-inspired techno, and UK club music which has seen him play at esteemed clubs and festivals, including Dimensions. Meanwhile, Albin explores guitar-infused trip hop and downtempo sounds via his personal mix series which I highly recommend.

Welcome to the world of Yard Man & Fog Dog,  two up and coming, deep digging, exquisitely tasted selectors spanning from Brooklyn to Delhi in New York State. 

With careers in film direction and editing, they have an innate ability to transport you into their vision of a foggy, iridescent dream space nestled in the green wonder of upstate New York. 

Here's what they had to say about their all wax submission to Doof Spawn: 

"Three hours northwest of the city, the Rainbow Ranch is getting foggy. My legs are tired from a bear walk in the woods. Gonna sit down for a sec. Forgot how perfect grass is. The house looks different from this angle. Not a home but a structure. One day, this will all be gone. Wish I could be there. A beautiful woman with saucer eyes hangs upside down in front of me, smiling. Is this my La Croix? I don’t know. She disappears. Towering blue trees bleed into a cotton candy sky, while the frogs tell each other stories from across the still pond. Oh lord, increase my bewilderment."

How many colours? 

Two hours recorded straight to hard drive in the Roseneath St lounge; this mix is a stack of muscly basslines with spackles of grooves and psychedelic trebles of the 90s and 00s tech house and techno I've been digitally digging recently. A few freakier left turns into modern "prog" and beefier tracks made for peak time round the 'ting off. Lots of long blends and time for tracks to do their thing!

Presenting the ever-lovely and ever-inspiring @mikemidnight for #175 in the series. The Boorloo/ Perth based artist initially garnered attention through his output of insanely dreamy trip-hop productions... the perfect combination of emotional & uplifting, and immaculately produced. Mike plays live as a solo artist and now makes up 1/3 of the exciting new band Trickpony, made up of Roza Terenzi, Emkay & Mike himself. 

Beyond his knack for weaving tear-jerkingly beautiful trip hop infused songs - Mike is also a great DJ. Here, with a more club-oriented mix, he showcases his taste & talent, a BTS look into the genres & moods that make up the mind of the talented artist.
