Red Tank! is a post-punk, art punk, and garage rock project which began in Phoenix, AZ, but is currently based in Brooklyn. The band has an emphasis on high energy songs and performances, as well as existential and politically-charged lyricism.

Since its inception in 2009, Red Tank! has independently released three studio records, a number of splits, singles, and EPs, and performed on various regional tours throughout the United States (on the East Coast, West Coast, and at SXSW). We’ve cultivated a small but loyal fanbase throughout the years with a reliance on DIY ethos and unique and earnest sonic expression.

This collection of songs has been labored over for the past four years in bedrooms (in AZ, CA, and NY) and studios (in AZ and CA). It’s a record largely inspired by the latent fantasy and horror in the political imagination -- and the path to a new world as a process of constant becoming.

here it is. the ep. it has been hopelessly sprawled out in hallways and fleeting muscle movements and recesses of the psyche for years. it has been on the ground for a while trying to either crawl or tear itself apart. it has been needlessly flailing and straining itself in utero. it's ugly and pointless. it's a trick made from average tools and materials and ideas intended to convince you of transcendence or salvation or beauty or the nature of love or the importance of those who crafted it. it's a tedious assemblage of worn-through gimmicks. it will not save the world. it might not even save you. most people living or dead will never hear it. maybe that's a part of what might make it special to you. enjoy.

About "Chains": 

This is a song about the latent power and momentum inside of human beings in the historic struggle for liberation. It was written in an apartment in Eagle Rock, CA in 2019, where I slept on the ground for a few months and worked part time at a taco shop. It was written shortly after I saw Mike Pence initiate a coup with "hola." It's about the revolutionary act of being alive -- and how passion, political fervor, and togetherness can coalesce towards a better world.

To everybody, I hope this finds you well. There’s been a swelling. I know you’ve felt it too. From gaslighted telecasts to sleeping on the floor--we are no beasts of burden. We need these chains no more. We never did.  We need these chains no more. In everybody a pulse is beating against the tide of every ocean. I feel it in me. You feel it in you? And it's been swelling... can't you feel it? In everybody, there is a rushing tide. You feel it in your veins, and I feel it in mine. Engine turning, oil spilling, and your tired shoulders weary. Flora blooming, thorns are growing cause we need these chains no more. Taking streets and breathing lungs. Pumping swelling hearts of blood. Forged in the tumultuous DIY scenes of Phoenix and Tempe, Arizona in the early 2010s, SQUALOR IN THE YEAR OF BLACK MAGIC is a garage rock and blues punk infused bottle rocket of reckless abandon. Between raucous sweaty house shows, a smattering of nation-spanning DIY tours, and various lineup changes, Red Tank! has laid down yelps and electrified riffs that have moved bodies and minds alike. This is the album that started it all. Crack a cold one, put on your coolest jacket, and play it loud. Phoenix-born and Brooklyn-based art punk band Red Tank! release a cover of “Night of the Assassins,” a song originally performed by the Japanese rock band Les Rallizes Dénudés. The noisy and psychedelic-infused garage punk track pays homage to the original with an English-language adaptation. 

Dark lyricism is evocatively sung-shouted over reverb-drenched chaotic guitars and driving drums and bass,  “On a very dark night, it’s like a murder. / What will satisfy your soul?” You can listen to an advance stream of the song here. It will be available on all streaming services Friday, February 26th, 2021.
