His contribution to the three year alongside No Way Back's Conor back-to-back with Honey's Jason Kendig perfectly captures our love for disco and sweaty dance parties. AYLI Podcast #23 - Daniel Wang - Live at Honey Soundsystem [10-21-12]

2013 marks a decade of Y-3 and its pioneering sport-style aesthetic—a look that continues to meld the avant-garde genius of Yohji Yamamoto with the breakthrough innovation of adidas. adidas is pleased to celebrate the 10th anniversary of Y-3 with a compilation album in collaboration with Alex Prat aka Alex from Tokyo (Tokyo Black Star, World Famous NYC) and 14 innovative electronic music producers, with CD and vinyl sets specially packaged with artwork by PL Studio.

Y-3 presaged the contemporary obsession with designer athletic wear by being the first to blur the boundaries of style and sport. The music on this compilation achieves a similar balance, bringing together dance music icons as well as fresh faces from the world of underground house and disco.

The esteemed contributors include Frank Wiedemann, one half of acclaimed duo Âme and co-founder of Berlin-based label Innervisions. Eccentric and reclusive maven Maurice Fulton makes a rare appearance, along with legendarily diverse New York DJ Joaquin "Joe" Claussell of the famed Body & Soul parties as well as Chicago house pioneer Larry Heard. Rub-N-Tug are a boisterous New York duo, and here they slot next to Jules Etienne's collaboration with disco purist Daniel Wang, founder of Balihu Records
Other artists on the compilation include Blackjoy, responsible for Parisian sci-fi disco, prolific Japanese producer Kaoru Inoue aka Chari Chari, Irish house heavyweight Mano Le tough, and Jiro Amimoto, who has produced the music at previous Y-3 runway shows. Discodromo, who heads up one of Berlin's top gay alternative parties Cocktail D'Amore, collaborates here with Italian Massimiliano Pagliara, a longtime resident at Frankfurt's Robert Johnson nightclub. Alex from Tokyo pulls double-duty, contributing a track from his and Isao Kumano's Tokyo Black Star project as well as mixing the CD version of the release. Rounding out the mix is anonymous Scottish producer Lord of the Isles and Quiet Village, featuring Matt "Radio Slave" Edwards.

The Y-3 compilation will be released in mid-September via the Y-3 website, retail stores, and social media outlets. The compilation will be available on CD with the tracks both mixed continuously or unmixed, along with 500 special-edition vinyl box sets and free digital downloads.

His podcast and interview in preparation for the celebration were a perfect compliment and representation of AYLI's last three years. When Sonar Kollektiv is presenting musical diggings you can be assured some real gems show up. And what a revelation is the Cosmic Disco by Venezuelan producer Daniel Grau! An elusive monographic showcase of his very productive creative period between 1978 and 1982 will be released as a double CD on the Berlin quality imprint later this year. 

Now, prior to the showcase compilation, a handful of selected remixes see the light of day – as a proof of how relevant Grau's music is still today. The opening of this firework is a real stunner on its own: One of the innovators of Nu Disco, Daniel Wang himself, is returning after a brief sabbatical! Together with also Berlin based Jules Etienne (one half of Egyptian Nipples) Danny “The Dancer” Wang takes two tracks of Daniel Grau's comprehensive back catalogue to task. “Robot Mágico” off the 1978 album “El Sonido Magico De Daniel Grau” does sound in its reinterpretation by the two disco aficionados as if it was recorded just yesterday. In the same smooth and sophisticated way comes the renovation of “Disco Fantasy” off the album of the same name from 1979. Still, the Non Disco Remix somehow reminds of Wang's groundbreaking releases on Environ and is funky and catchy to such an extend that DJs probably would love to play it three times in a row.

Well, the bar is set very high for the upcoming Daniel Grau remixes. But Sonar Kollektiv wouldn't be Sonar Kollektiv if you wouldn't already know exactly that there are more hot irons in the fire.

Our 'Downtownsounds Classics' series has finally arrived, delving deep into the crates to give you the choicest nuggets that rocked the floor at the Dublin collective's 'anything goes' club nights. 

First up it's Daniel Wang and Brennan Green's incredible remix of Block 16's 'Electrokution'. This stunning 13 minute odyssey got lost in the messy demise of Nuphonic Records, but was rescued by The Wangster, who decided to put it out on his own Balihu label. It features propulsive 21st Century electro-disco stylings, with keening theremin sounds, a mad beatbox driven breakdown, hairy guitar solos, a psychedelic Loft style wigout, and a crazy dub reggae coda that will hypnotise your soul. One for deep'n'dirty 3am dancefloors, the original was rinsed by The Unabombers at Electric Chair, and the sleeve features shouts to Harvey and Dutch Italo-disco I-F.... Whipperesnapper DJ support from the likes of Leftside Wobble and Bicep for this reissue too, we are only delighted with ourselves it must be said!

Born in sunny California, DANIEL WANG spent his younger years in Taiwan, only to return to the US in the late 80's to study & work. It was the post Paradise Garage era of ecstatic Hi-NRG clubs at Fire Island with dj's playing everything from crazy italo to early house and disco classics. A genuine spirit of freedom, love and togetherness reigned the sweaty dancefloors. Disco was a revolution. Powerful yet dirty. Disco was secret, underground, dangerous. It was the hottest, sexiest, most deeply loving dance music.

Frustrated with New York nightlife around the millenium switch, Danny relocated to Berlin for its political climate, pop culture & gay atmosphere. With releases on his own Balihu imprint and Morgan Geist's Environ label, Danny paved the way for many disco artists to surface in recent years , his lively and crazy dj sets worldwide being an inspiration for the guys at Horse Meat Disco and many many more. 

Little over two years ago, Daniel Wang played the infamous Oscillations party and those who were there will gladly tell you about the trip he took us on, accompanied by his microphone and the craziest disco & house selection we've ever witnessed, from Bohannon to Steve Silk Hurley over Stock, Aitken & Waterman. This time he returns to Bazaar for the third installment of Holger, so you know what to expect: beautiful freaks & blasphemous good times (and hopefully some good ol' Abba)!
