Ny Soundcloud-upload! Som jeg blankt indrømmer er i bagatel-afdelingen... det er ikke nyt, det er under et minut og jeg rapper ikke på det... men det er en bagatel bygget af kærlighed som jeg gerne vil dele med jer. 

I dag er det præcis 20 år siden at der samme dag udkom to albums, der begge har holdt sig på min top-10 lige siden. Eller... den slags "indre lister" skifter jo hele tiden, men det er i hvert fald to af de albums jeg har hørt allermest, og blandt de få jeg kan udenad fra start til slut. Det drejer sig om Wu-Tang Clan <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Enter_the_Wu-Tang_%2836_Chambers%29">"Enter The 36 Chambers"</a> og A Tribe Called Quest <a href="http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Midnight_Marauders">"Midnight Marauders"</a>. 

Førstnævnte er rå, mørk, kryptisk, smadret og lo-fi. Sidstnævnte er elegant, virtuos, positiv, jazzet, hi-fi - begge var revolutionerende og stilskabende og så tæt på perfekt man kan komme - i min ørebog. Da Sund Fornuft lavede vores første album, ville vi vel egentlig bare være A Tribe Called Quest. Indflydelsen har fulgt mig siden, især ønsket om at lave albums der hang sammen fra start til slut, med skits og interludes. Robot-pige-stemmen fra Midnight Marauder Tour Guide var en genial måde at skabe sammenhæng og perfekte overgange mellem numre... 

Da jeg i 2011 var færdig med albummet "EGO" (lyt på Soundcloud <a href="http://soundcloud.com/per_vers/sets/ego">HER</a>) gjorde jeg alvor af en idé der blev født da jeg samme sommer havde taget til <a href="http://www.rockthebells.net/">Rock The Bells</a> i New York for at se Tribe fremføre Midnight Marauders i fuld længde - og i øvrigt havde en hjemrejse der førte til <a href="http://www.bt.dk/udland/kendt-rapper-i-chokerende-noedlanding-i-usa">denne "chokerende" overskrift</a>. Ved hjemkomsten fik jeg stemmeskuespiller <a href="http://www.freyas.info/">Freya Møller-Sørensen </a>til at lægge blød stewardesse-røst til syv små mellemspil. Mit album havde spøjst nok nøjagtig samme antal tracks og på sekundet samme spilletid som Tribe-klassikeren - så vi lagde de små speaks samme steder.

Om et par timer skal jeg være vært til PRE DMA GALLA, hvor 10 ud af de 20 DMA-statuetter uddeles, 50 meter fra og halvanden time før den TV-transmitterede fest i Forum. Phifes linie fra "Award Tour" vil køre i loop i min hjerne imens: "I'll never let a statue tell me how nice I am"...

About the album

Music is not just art, just words, just sounds, it is an invisible net that binds
us, fusing with our souls, telling our stories. This is the story of how A Tribe Called Quest inspired these artists to make a difference musically, to not fear being different, to not fear self expression. This tribute is to thank ATCQ for being the first to take these steps, and to make it easier for those who followed.

Like all art forms, music is a means of self-expression. This album is an
expression whose purpose is to thank A Tribe Called Quest for being, not only a
source of inspiration, but more importantly a source of positive energy.
This album also serves as a message to ATCQ, urging them to get past their
differences and remember their roots as a hip hop band. We hope that the
response will remind the band of why they started making music, of their roots, and of their duty to their fans.

“The Heroes: A Tribute To A Tribe Called Quest” is a voyage, from the 90’s when ATCQ was at its peak, to now, taking the listener on an evolutionary tour of hip hop to Southern Africa. This album is not only a tribute to ATCQ, but also a symbol of the happiness and joy in the simplicity of life, love, and music.
