Dub Head makes his return to Dispatch LTD with a debut EP this February; a four track release entitled ‘Bad Signal EP’. 

Joining us last year with a single featuring ‘Spaceship’ and later contributing ‘Black Hole’ to our Dispatch #100 compilation, the Ukrainian has quickly cast his own distinction within the label, gaining solid support from Noisia, DLR and Skeptical. 

Impressing us from the start, with his innate understanding of the groove within drum & bass, the new EP builds upon this, with all the elements geared towards expressing exactly that; from the crispness in the drums, to his routinely smooth, pumping low ends. 

Whether it’s a more chilled out affair, like the delicate chords of ‘Cepheid’, or a darker tip, like title track ‘Bad Signal’, there is always a distinct swing leading the track, an unmistakable groove that Dub Head has a natural ability to create. 

Adding a touch of quality of his productions, with a unique simplicity, Dub Head continues to keep us enthused.

We feel privileged to present an hour of inspiring records from https://soundcloud.com/dsao (Dele Sosimi), the afrobeat legend headlining the Lawn Stage at Gottwood this year along side his Afrobeat Orchestra.

Dele's career began when he joined Fela Kuti's Egypt 80 in 1979, he then moved on to create Positive Force, a band with Femi Kuti with whom he performed from 1986 to 1994. He has since released numerous solo albums, most recently on https://soundcloud.com/wahwah45s, all formed from a complex blend of funk grooves, Nigerian traditional music, African percussion and jazz horns.

With such an abundance of resources, the people of Africa should be among the richest in the world. While there are many wealthy people living on the African continent, this wealth has not historically translated into better living conditions for the average African person. There are numerous reasons for this including european colonization, corruption, armed conflict or rebellion, as well as the policies of international financial institutions like the World Bank and International Monetary Fund.

Washington, D.C. based @SolPowerDC are lining up their next release, this time it's a series of edits from Boston, MA's @Bosqmusic. Slotting perfectly into Sol Power's percussive, afro and disco leaning sound, the edits take four of Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou's songs and give them subtle, tasteful reworks. Bosq has been exploring various afro-latin avenues in many of his works over the last several years, which include three albums and an EP, although the edits here may actually be closer to his roots as one half of the @WhiskeyBarons, notorious for their edits and remixes.

Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou formed back in 1966 in Benin and released hundreds of songs in the decades that followed. The band has recently re-formed and started touring again, also releasing an album back in 2011. Bosq cites them as a major influence on his work to date and wanted to be respectful to the original material when working on his edits. Our premiere today comes courtesy of the B1 on the record. Taking Orchestre Poly Rythmo de Cotonou's track 'Djanfa Magni', Bosq introduces a beefier low end while lightly re-arranging parts of the original cut and adding some extra percussion. These DJ friendly edits are sure to heat up plenty of summer's end parties so don't sleep and get your pre-orders in.

Analog Africa return with another batch of wildly original Vodoun-inspired funky bliss from Benin. The West African country was busting out domestic pressings of heavy dancefloor shakers through the 60s and 70s and African Scream Contest 2 collects some of the most explosive of this wave. Label head Samy Ben Redjeb went straight to the source for these cuts, tracking down artists with the help of a former KGB agent who also happened to be in one of the hottest Afrobeat bands of the time. Luckily this sleuthing was focused on a positive goal, helping to revive this bubbly bouncer from Orchestre Poly-Rythmo de Cotonou and thirteen other stellar songs.
