I'll be honest, I'm not sure if I would've ever remixed this song if it wasn't for the commission, but boy am I glad I did! This is my first attempt at making a reggaeton style beat, and it was a BOATload of fun. Linebeck is just such a fun character, and his theme really gives him that charm/personality. I wanted to keep that original, walking the plank type feel while showing Linebeck that the squids - really just wanna party. The hardest part of this remix for me was definitely crafting the perfect 808 bass to kinda mesh those two worlds together.

Two years ago I released the original mix of Press Start, and it's safe to say that it's been my most successful song thus far. It's a song that came from my (very weird) heart and truly defines the "MDK style".

The fact that you guys love it so much means the world to me, and I wanted to do something fun to celebrate the 2-year anniversary of the track. I'm proud to present this VIP mix of Press Start!

His signature electro-organic style, developed over the course of four previous breakbeat and trance albums, has morphed and evolved with the fast tempos and scintillating colors found throughout this album.

FOREWORD 

As a native of Michigan, it was nearly impossible growing up to escape it's diverse art and culture. One of my earliest musical influences was Motown. Only later did I discover Mc5, The Stooges, Alice Cooper and Grand Funk Railroad. As a teenager, I began following local punk rock and metal bands only to be drawn deeper down the rabbit hole. An introduction to doom metal and stoner rock in my early twenties had me searching for more.

By the 2000’s a wave of such bands were making it through Detroit, Lansing and Grand Rapids. It was a golden era for heavy music in the state until the Great Recession hit the Midwest. This created somewhat of a void. As a result a new underground scene has emerged across the state coinciding with a resurgence of heavy metal. Detroit has become an epicenter for this movement. A new wave of bands influenced by the heavy '70s, stoner rock, doom and metal are creating this scene.

With a focus on Detroit and surrounding Michigan bands, Doomed and Stoned presents the latest in a series dedicated to documenting heavy music across the globe.
