"Trying to capture the feeling of summer in the Northeast is tough, the most concise summation I could muster is, "finally here, it's almost over" because honestly thats how it feels up here. (not to mention that by the time I finally ever do a summer mix, it tends to be almost over). That feeling of fleeting warmth and beauty coupled with my city emptying out every summer (byyyye students!) is what I tried to capture in this mix, and for me this is what it sounds like inside my head when I step out of the house and start walking on those first warm days. It's also my attempt to extend the summer feeling a little longer than the weather usually allows us to. It's a funky little 55 minute trip through some disco, cumbia, funk, afrobeat y mas. This year's Gottwood could almost have been renamed Gottwood 2016 With Move D. The German artist played three times across the weekend and hosted a wine bar at Ruffy's Lab. This set, though, was the centrepiece, an almost four-hour session to close out Secretsundaze's takeover of The Curve. It had all of the ingredients we've come to know and love about David Moufang's sets: fun, infectious, a little bit ramshackle and always memorable. (Consider the occasional needle skips in this recording as part of the experience.)

After finishing up their set in Brockwell Park, Eamon Harkin and Justin Carter, or Mister Saturday Night, travelled a few miles east to Canavan's Peckham Pool Club. This, of course, is the longstanding home of Rhythm Section, a party headed up by Bradley Zero. Rhythm Section is known for its loose, good-time vibes, a feeling that's mirrored in this wild, extended back-to-back session.

Here is a live DJ set I streamed to Facebook Live on April 30, 2020. It's basically the result of a crate-digging expedition for mostly-forgotten disco tracks which saw me foraging through mountains of record boxes, and managing to laboriously unearth special musical treasures that I can share with you. 

While a few familiar tunes are sprinkled throughout, at this time it's been decided that (unlike my other uploads) no track listing will be published. These here are not too difficult to guess yet, they may get progressively harder in future editions of the 'Disco Nuggets' series which have officially started with this mix.

Hope you enjoy listening through these and discovering what they are as much as I did hunting for those goodies after hours of musical archeology.

"I not so slowly transitioned from being a punk rock musician-guitarist-singer to new wave-disco-punk-DJ & Club Kid in 1987 Enchanted by the diverse mix of people and sounds that made clubbing in SF in that era such a unique experience. Selling my guitar and Fender Super Reverb amp to buy turntables about 15 years before a certain NYC band wrote a song about it. 

With all of today’s political divisiveness, the global pandemic, isolation, and pending economic collapse. It has me reflecting on those pre-rave days at the end of the Cold War era, the time of Reganomics and other political BS, really has me flashing back to clubbing in San Francisco and the Bay Area at that influential time in my life. A time when the clubs were a real sanctuary and DJ’ing was not such a big business. The places I went to dance were so diverse with innovative DJ’s that usually played all night, playing music that didn’t cater to one crowd or genre but rather creating a home for so many outcasts, with such different tastes and perspectives. 
Psychedelic, Punk Rock, Mod, New Wave, Industrial, Disco, Hip Hop, Funk, Gothic, Soul, Rock, Proto House, and Alternative all blending in to one. 

This DJ mix isn’t meant as any kind of definitive breakdown of the time (that would take weeks), just a glimpse into what you might of heard on one night at the club...
