1. Graceful Ghost (William Balcolm) 
I learned to play this lyrical modern rag when I was about 16. Making this recording motivated me to iron out the last few wrinkles - not an easy thing! 
2. Lyckovalsen (Ellika Frisell, arr. Isak Bergstrom) 
Paul Morrissett introduced me to this lovely Scandinavian waltz. Hearing Isak Bergstrom's solo accordion arrangement opened up a whole new world. 
3. How Will I Ever Be Simple Again (Richard Thompson) 
Someone once said that a great song is one that sounds like it was written a hundred years ago but is as relevant as if it were written yesterday. 
4. Simon Smith and the Amazing Dancing Bear (Randy Newman) 
Randy Newman, particularly his playing on this song, has always 
inspired me to bring more jazz elements to popular and "trad" playing. 
5. La Boîte a Frissons (Jean Blanchard)/Le Petit Chien (Andy Cutting) 
In the tiny world of button accordion players, Andy Cutting, who plays both these tunes, is a giant. La Bo1te a Frissons is an LGBTQ dance club in Paris. The phrase means "the shivering box" - a great description of the button accordion. 
6. A Stór Mo Chroí (lyrics, Brian O'Higgins) 
A stór mo chroí is Irish for "treasure of my heart." The song helps me imagine how my great grandmother might have felt when her twenty­something daughter left to cross the ocean for Boston. I think it expresses the feelings of mothers all over the world whose children move far away. 
7. La fée des dents (Andre Brunet)/Le reel à Robin (Claude Methé) 
I love the music of Québec! I took up the fiddle at the ripe age of 54. I encourage everyone to try to do least six impossible things a day, preferably before breakfast. 
8. People (Jule Styne, lyrics Bob Merrill) 
My piano teacher, David Leonhardt, inspired this. He can make a tune you've heard 1000 times sound completely new.
