Mars Today, the burgeoning Los Angeles-via-San Francisco producer multi-instrumentalist has a new EP to shout about. Having already jumped in the lab with Soulection artist ESTA on the single "summatime fine" recently, this next project acts as a pertinent stepping stone. Tropical Fruit is as delectable as the cover artwork suggests.

"Um Dia" is a collaboration with one of the Bay's most talented folk, Gyrefunk. It's the equivalent of a Sunday siesta with a refreshing drink in hand; sumptuous, refreshing and relaxing in equal measure. Samba and electronica combine to concoct the finest fruit punch sound, sweetened even further by Nurse Boogz's vocal stylings.

Melbourne R&B slow jammers (and heart throbbers) Leisure Centre (FKA The Do Yo Thangs) are proud to release ‘Sucka’, the second cut taken from their long-awaited debut album, Mind Full. Sucka’s bouncy 90s synth-funk meets new jack era R&B sound is the perfect end to the 2018 Australian summer. 

Drummer, songwriter and producer Hugh Rabinovici says, “It’s about those super fun/exciting early stages of falling for someone - The kind of sitch where it’s out of your control and you’re just dumb in love”. Audrey Powne delivers a storming lead vocal supported by silky harmonies and a pumping rhythm section.

Out 20 July, the Mind Full album sits on a darker and more electronic plane to their previous EP, taking their staple of 808 kick drums and tight vocal harmonies into almost Little Dragon-esque territory. Mind Full is a tour of extremes, from the sparse minimalism of title track to the exuberant maximalism of ‘Sucka’.

On 20th November 2020, Reel People roll back into town with their first original material in over a decade. The Dancing On The Moon EP, produced by core members Oli Lazarus, Mike Patto and Toni Economides, will lead out a brand new album, Love2, later this year. Weaving contemporary R&B vibes into the collective’s classic, groove-fired flow, the album promises a powerful evolution of the Reel People sound.

EP opener I Never Knew is pure pomp, pace and purpose – fizzing bars courtesy of Arrested Development’s Speech riding an irresistible cosmic groove in fine style and expressing perfectly the out-and-out euphoria of love. If I Was Your Man, fronted by Michael Champion, bounces standout R&B vocals over some seriously swaggering piano stomp and soul personality, whilst Atlanta songstress Chantae Cann applies subtle, silky finesse to Dance In Her Eyes. Here, Cann’s dreamy vocals segue into moody synth-funk topped by Philly rapper Dayne Jordan’s dextrous rhymes, adding further intensity to this time-honoured tale of fleeting dancefloor love. Save A Lil Love rounds the package off, New Jersey stalwart Eric Roberson as engaging as ever over a zinging future-soul fusion of spacy synths and pulsing b-line.

Dancing On The Moon EP  tells us that the collective are totally back. New songs, new vibes, but the same soulful soothe, groove and sparkle.
