First heard during A&B’s Group Therapy 450 set in London, we’re pleased to officially release ‘Always’, a collaboration between Ben Nicky, Greg Downey and vocalist Christian Burns.

Ben Nicky is a global ambassador for the fastest, toughest styles of modern dance music. His touring schedule is as relentless as his sets, which slide seamlessly from vocal euphoria to industrial hardstyle and psychedelic trance.

Releasing music since 2009, you can find Ben on labels like Ultra, Mad Decent DimMak, Armada and Spinnin’ and in the record bags of MistaJam (BBC R1), Timmy Trumpet, Andrew Rayel, Armin van Buuren, Diplo. Ben Nicky’s soft spot for the classic sounds of Anjunabeats are no secret: his recent ASOT1000 set in Moscow featured several slices of Beats nostalgia. 

Greg Downey is the owner of the ‘Skullduggery’ imprint, and has been releasing music since 2007, getting nods from Vandit, Spinnin’ Records, Kearnage, Who’s Afraid of 138 and FSOE. Greg is a regular on the trance circuit, recently spinning at Creamfields, Ministry of Sound, Dreamstate and Victoria Warehouse Manchester. His remix of Simon Patterson’s ‘Breath Again’ was a sleeper hit for fans of uplifting, vocal trance. This is Greg’s first release on Anjunabeats.

Christian Burns is a multi-platinum selling singer and songwriter who has collaborated with Tiesto, BT, Armin van Buuren, Benny Benassi and Anjunadeep’s Jody Wisternoff on 2020’s ‘The Spark’. No stranger to the charts, Christian’s band BBMak hit the UK Top 40 and the US Billboard Top 100. His most recent solo album, ‘Love Songs From Suburbia’, hit no.1 on iTunes in the U.S.

A track I wrote back in 2011 about what if aliens came down and walked amongst us, then one day they started revealing themselves to warn of a coming apocalypse (yea I know, think I pulled that from a fever dream lol). This is a full re-work as the original had a less interesting hook. I still use the original patches from the track (esp. the +z3ta ones), however the main pluck in the chorus was created on the new Korg Minilogue hardware synth I got earlier this year, and is a pre-set I created from scratch, which I'm kinda proud of because it took forever!

If you look up the word platonic, it gets described by friendship & affection. To me the word has always had this air of melancholy, love at a distance, unrequited, never meant to be. I wrote this song back in 2012 in a fit of emotion when I realised I needed to hang up the daw (digital audio workstation). I ran out of time, and bills needed to be paid, so I grew up.

Fortunately things worked out & that I can make music again. Though sifting through all the tracks I'll be working on to release draws me back to this one word platonic. Does this still describe my relationship with my music? Only the future knows, but I am hopeful.

Platonic (Original Mix)

A hopeful uplfting track about wanting to have someone's back, and truly believing they can succeed through their own strength. Letting them soar if you will through the clouds, because they gave you something, and you want to recipricate.

I must have gone through hundreds of iterations of this tune trying to get the right balance, but it's hard because it relies on a synth that is meant to fill the stereo like an electric mist. Little too much and it gets fuzzy, too little and it feels empty.
