Elephant Moon proudly welcomes back rising UK producer Jamie Leather, presenting a dancefloor-driven release overflowing with sonic delights. The A-side skillfully blends 80's beats and late 90's progressive, transporting listeners in a state of trance euphoria. On the flip side, B1 delivers an irresistible dancefloor roller to set feet in motion, while B2 captures those elusive late-night, magical moments.

Before Records boss Ben Jones is still to some a relatively new face on the scene, but in the few short years he has been active he has covered an impressive amount of ground. Having already come to attention of many of our scenes trend setters and this has been in part due to Ben’s slamming releases for labels such as Enzo Siragusa’s LCS Trax and of course his very own Before Records.

His imprint has gone from strength to strength since launching in 2018 and the Liverpool based artist is already up the third edition of the label which we recently shone a light on. The rising talent is clearly going places so it was a no brainer to have him flex for our InSession series and the tight combo of minimal, house and garage is the perfect day time soundtrack for those hazy mornings or sweaty afternoon sessions.

Smooth Operators, the collaborative project of French producers Lamalice and Massai, strikes once again with a themed track “a-la-batman”, this time representing Sentaku, as part of the various compilation “Velvet Union”, an initiative pioneered by Charonne with the aim of joining the dots and representing the most prolific Parisian labels. The record is set to be released on Record Store Day 2024.

B1 - Look Perry - Way To Dance

This EP contains 4 tracks inspired by the dance music boom in Europe from the late 80s to early 90s. Luis composed all the tracks using a Novation BassStation, an Akai MPC 2000XL for the drums and sampling, and a Korg M1 for the pads and melodies, using the occasional VST where appropriate.

A1 “Miedo aqui estoy” (Fear, here I am) combines a fast bassline with a hypnotic melody, New Wave influences and shades of electro unite to create an immersive atmosphere. The message ‘no to fear’ being transmitted through optimistic and euphoric pads. 

A2 “Neminem Laedere”, inspired by New Wave sounds and rhythm, this track uses bright synths to create audio textures that invite introspection. The hypnotic melodies repeat throughout, enforcing the title's message ‘do no harm’.

B1 “Noches y Amaneceres” Taking the heavy and dark rhythms of new beat and entwining the contagious melodies of Italo provided by bright synths, this fusion gives the track a unique bouncy atmosphere.

B2 “Violines en el barrio”, A track that revolves around a focus on sampling. The breakbeat influence accompanying synths with an 80s flavour and pads providing a deeper texture.

The second instalment of the Reference Mark Mix Series. Past, present and future friends of the label are given the chance to reference the sounds that define them.

As a co-founder of the Sheffield-based Rave New World night Andrew Cook aka Soundboy Cookie immediately established himself in the underground garage scene. This success up north was swiftly followed by a move to London, a slew of swinging productions and recognition from some of the most prominent figures in the scene such as Perception, DJ Shy Dee and El-B. In collaboration with Paris' recordshop Dizonord, Knekelhuis will close the summer of 2019 with this amazing gem. Beyond the Beat will burst dancefloors soon. 

Founded in 1990 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Cold Front were what you'd call early adaptors, their music at the time of its inception an oddity. This fourpiece, consisting of spouses Ayanna and Cam Muata, Jon Jon Scott and Ron Clark, were far ahead of their time and faded just as rapidly as they entered the stage, only playing a handful of local shows in support of Nine Inch Nails, Meat Beat Manifesto and such, alongside several cameos during early house nights and techno events.

Though short lived, their music nevertheless speaks volumes. It's intriguing stuff, a magical association of sound reminiscent of Ron Hardy and Klein MBO. New Beat-like drum parts, overdubbed by politically engaged raps, basslines that would make The Cure proud, held together by freakout speaking in tongues vocal experiments while also showing an obvious parallel to the rise of triphop at the other side of the ocean.
