Carl Finlow - The Oberth Effect kicks off the record with a mind bending trip to the dark side of electro, delivering a masterclass in multi-layered synth sound design, rolling bass lines and Finlow’s expert production. A fellow electro master Plant43 delivers his debut release for 20/20 Vision - Forcefield Deactivation following a pioneering run of records over many years for Semantica, Bleep43 and Cultivated Electronics. 

Crossing continents to Asia, the flip side features a collaboration between Hong Kong based producers Mr. Ho & Xiaolin (Klasse Wrecks). 'No Change To How I Feel’ is a unique sign of the times. A deep techno track served with a heavy 4/4 kick, perpetually evolving arpeggios, quick fire hats and a haunting vocal. Leeds based producer Alfred completes the release with a sound forged from intricate drum sequencing and strong chords and melodies. Alfred is an exciting new talent that manages to connect the dots between breakbeat and electro.

This beauty is taken from 'A Mental Health Mixtape'—a compilation raising money for CALM (the Campaign Against Living Miserably, a great charity working in suicide prevention and support). It's a slow-burning chugger with a pacey tempo that develops from deep, muted atmospherics into a fizzing flurry of colourful, shimmering synths.

More than 700,000 people die from suicide every year. That's 1 person every 40 seconds. For every 1 death, it's estimated that 20 more attempted to take their life. In the UK, 75% of all suicides are male.

Campaign Against Living Miserably (CALM) is a UK based charity which campaigns to end the stigma around male mental health and provides lifesaving services.

It’s a great pleasure to introduce Leed’s based newcomer Alfred for his eagerly awaited debut release on 20/20 Vision following a string of cutting edge releases on Reference Mark Recordings. ‘Direct Hit’ is packed with an array of intricately woven electro, breaks and perfectly executed peak-time club weapons. 

'Direct Hit’ fuses techno and broken beats with a bottom heavy bass theme reminiscent of classic Kevin Saunderson, soaring arpeggiated synth lines, slick drum programming and a killer break. The highly sought after Dublin based producer Cignol delivers a perfectly executed acid electro remix that adds lush strings additional synths to the original theme. 

‘Iris’, is a nifty high fidelity breaks workout, loaded with an abundance of Alfred’s signature flourishing arpeggios and modulating synths backed by an infectious groove, and a fragmented bass line. 'Core Velocity’ rounds off the record with perfectly nuanced synth polyphony giving it a deep, tripped out braindance flair, punchy bass and irresistible groove.

Already a well-established presence on the outlandish fringes of experimental, alternative and dance music, celebrated Israeli duo Red Axes make a surprise left-turn onto Phantasy with a three-track 12”, ‘Sipoor’. Unsurprisingly, the results are as pleasingly out-there as the occasion requires. 

Following on from last year’s self-released LP, ‘The Beach Goths’, ‘Sipoor’ immediately announces the Axes’ uncompromising return to the front and centre of the dancefloor with the raw, provocative ‘Bad Time Story’. Brazen, brash acid triggers this particular tale, as Red Axes briskly modulate their way through a ruff, tuff but never less than musical landscape of 303s and 808s. 

‘Sipoor’ takes a more gradual approach to building offbeat rave tension, featuring an unknown male using his native tongue to request some kind of house, some kind of techno and some sort of release. His wish (and we hope, yours) is the Axes’ command, as the music goes deep before seamlessly unfolds around a throbbing bassline and a playful, familiar keyboard sample, beckoning feet to the dancefloor and perhaps tongues ever so slightly to cheeks. 

Concluding the 12”, ‘Teroof’ takes each of Red Axes’ signature ingredients - deeply rhythmic EBM-inspired drums, spiralling electronics, unapologetically odd vocal distortions - and reconstructs them amid what sounds like the Monaco Grand Prix, as high-velocity motors speed past the soundscape, kicking up some serious dust.

Estonian pioneer Raul Saaramets exists in many parallel musical universes and this is reflected in his stellar output as Ajukaja, mining a rich furrow of stand out, oddball yet eminently danceable, groovy house and beat experiments. As the program co-director for Estonia’s national radio station Raadio  2, he’s given his country unprecedented access to some of the hottest music on this planet. He’s also made some of the finest underground dance records over the last few years including ‘Stranger’, ‘Benga Benga’ and “Rare Birds’ (made with long time production partner Andrevski) which were hammered by the scenes elite. His Bergerac debut has been a long time coming but well worth the wait. 

Mhmhmh is a super vibey late night burner which quite obviously gets its title from the faintly Germanic, sleazy vocal sample which goes ‘um hum um hum’.

For the second release on the Galaxiid imprint, a label of electronic music archeology and quality, we are transported to the strange sonic world of an elusive 90s pioneer. Solar X’s 1997 album X-Rated will be released for the first time on vinyl, as well as reissued digitally, with new artwork by the Japanese artist Keiichi Tanaami. Two worlds connecting sonically, visually and culturally.

Solar X enjoyed a burgeoning career in post-Perestroika Moscow making playful, low-tech electronica from Soviet analogue instruments, which he masterfully configured to forge animated compositions and dancefloor rarities. Fascinated by chaos and complexity, his music explores the ways in which our minds can be manipulated by structure - an endeavour quite plausibly linked to his other career as a lecturer and researcher of AI, information theory and cognitive science, his interest in which was in turn triggered by his young experiments in computer music.

Solar X gained international attention at a time when Russia was (quite unfairly) seen as a vacuum for electronic music, but was exploding in the period of piracy, poverty and freedom following the collapse of the USSR. Young Russians had benefited from the soviet education system and there was a strong DIY computer programming and music scene, fuelled by hackers, gear freaks and party animals. Viewed from today, the album is reborn at a time of further political and social strife, which many see as fuelling the huge creativity and radical thinking of modern Russia’s young creatives.

X-Rated treats tempo and form as fluid concepts, administering sudden changes to its sonic landscape with disorienting effect, underlain with a subtle dose of humour and experimentation. Downtempo trip-hop sits alongside frenetic IDM and blistering electro, all bound together by peculiar melodic inflections and lively distortions. Warm, trippy harmonies and robotic synths are offset with angular drums, shifting erratically through moods and genres with cunning intent. Much like his contemporaries from the era, it’s his ability to breathe life into a humble production setup that makes his music so compelling some twenty one years later. 

The track titles are from a book of call girl cards in London phone booths, that reached the artist in Moscow in 1995. "I liked the titles from these cards, which were self-promoting and offering pleasure (e.g. "Mistress awaits you"). So, I thought since my tracks also offered some kind of pleasure, they might as well advertise this through their titles.” 

Label head Nina Kraviz was introduced to the work of the 83 year old sensei Keiichi Tanaami by Ukawa Naoshiro, founder of Dommune in Tokyo, one of the brightest figureheads for the arts in Japan, responsible for the graphic design of the cover. In September 2017 Nina played for the opening of Tanaami-san’s first exhibition in Moscow at Gary Tatintsian Gallery. Nina performed a live sound palette, to accompany the looping 7 minute animation, of experimental music from the Soviet Union, Russian pioneers of electronic music like Species Of Fishes and SolarX, Soviet-time pioneer Lev Termen, Kuryochin, avant-guard rock mixed with some Stockhausen and just pure abstract sounds, as well as treasured artists like Biogen.

Tanaami‘s illustrative work has strong sexual elements, so out of the five art pieces Nina selected and commissioned for Galaxiid, the first fits perfectly for ‘X-rated’. The vertical line of text on the left is the traditional form for Japanese covers of foreign releases. The cover, together with the accompanying poster and sticker, are printed in Japan to ensure the highest print quality and purity of the colours.

Arts has now passed the landmark number of 100. But the reality is that we divided all the records into different categories, which makes the total number way bigger. Nevertheless, the label has become synonymous with Quality and Consistency with a wide range of timeless sounds from Techno, House, Dub Techno, Electro, championing some of the most respected names in the scene and pushing the youth and putting this same Youth at the very top of the Chain, the label Philosophy keeps rotating on a different level of Orbits trying to reach always the best result and never be influenced by anything in the Scene.

The Box is a meticulous work of One entire Year, every artist of the 20 selected delivered something that connects deeply with the label and the reason why they are part of it. 
The study goes beyond when Artists get different colors of palettes and a different surface to paint, their known soundscapes comes with something freer than the usual approach that they did in their singles. Greetings and welcome from Axces. We're a small local Copenhagen community of friends and curious souls. This is our very first record. 

The record was created in 2017 at the professional facilities we've come to know as Nordvest Auto. On both tracks, you'll hear a lot of drums, some bass, effects, samples, vocals and sounds from beyond, we don't know how to describe. They've been tested on various sound systems during the past year, and we can ensure you that a flat EQ and max volume will suit the tracks almost anywhere. 

We really hope you enjoy our effort. If you should ever find yourself in Copenhagen Axces will provide counselling and guidance at own risk.

Kincaid teams up with 80s cult icon Blancmange for new single ‘Big Fat Head’. The father, son collaboration is set to drop on Disco Halal.

Fast emerging artist Kincaid has unveiled a new collaborative record with the respected British synth-pop act Blancmange. Set for release on the 22nd March, ‘Big Fat Head’ will land on Moscoman’s famed Disco Halal imprint.

Clad with percussive textures, the release marks a father and son team-up with Kincaid (Joe Arthur) and father, Neil Arthur, via the Blancmange project. Accompanied by a remix from Moscoman and Trikk under the 'Nucat' moniker, ‘Big Fat Head’ is turned into a chugging synth-wave melody.

The record marks the first original production from the pair, who have previously collaborated on a string of remixes for Blancmange’s ‘What’s The Time’, ‘Distant Storm’ and ‘Not A Priority’ - taken from the acclaimed albums ‘Wanderlust’ and ‘Unfurnished Rooms’.

Based in Berlin, but firmly rooted in the diverse and forward-facing musical scene of Tel Aviv, Moscoman’s Disco Halal label hails from beneath the minarets of the Holy Land. The imprint exists to present a tightly-knit and growing community of musicians and producers, each transmitting their unique musical identity, yet each united by a unique sensibility, as well as a harmonious balance of rhythm and experimentation.

Encompassing elements of downtempo, new-wave and alternative pop, stitched together with a leftfield dancefloor throb, Disco Halal’s back-catalogue, filled with efforts from the likes of Simple Symmetry, The Organism and Moscoman himself, has seen the imprint rapidly emerging from the once-overlooked nightlife and club scene of Tel Aviv into the worldwide spectrum.

A month or so ago I put out a request for up and coming producers to send in their unreleased tracks for me to pick one to remix live on Youtube. I got sent far more entries than I was expecting and it wasn’t easy at all to pick a winner. I did a fair bit of dancing round the living room feeling them out and eventually settled on a total whopper by @indentsound. Everything about it is up my street. The dark tone, the stripped back groove and the big sub. I could see myself playing it a ton and that was what sold it to me.

I spent a few live streams doing the remix and flipped it into a heavy and hypnotic techno roller. No holds barred business.

I hadn’t originally intended to release them when I came up with the concept but in the end the original was so strong that it would have been crazy not to. I was very happy with the remix as well and so here we are.
