Here's why it takes me so long to do these.  Should I try to put in a guitar part from What I've Done or New Divide or Burning in the Skies and have the entire weight of the track shift in that direction, or do I just wait for stems for Until It's Gone to come out, so I can use those for the main guitar parts?

I know where I'm going, but I'm not sure how to get there.

I think I will probably have to resort to arranging in layers like this, making sure everything's lined up and pitched to where it needs to be, then go back over individual tracks to make sure all the chop cuts are "invisible", then render each of those stems as separate tracks and send it to somebody who 1. knows what they're doing, and 2. isn't having to work through television speakers.

Also - for you guys who know the guitar parts in all of the original songs, I am OPEN TO SUGGESTIONS if there are any particular phrases or sections that you think would work in this, let me know the track and timestamp and I'll see if I can find it.

After 3 years I decided to re-record an old demo. It has a lot more structure now! Check it out! The old demo can be found on my YouTube channel.
First it was just an intro because i didn't have the equipment to do original full tracks. Now i was finally able to do it. This instrumental is designed to have lyrics as well as sounding great without.

Vicarious - Tool (Guitar Tone Test)

This is the instrumental track for the mash-up with the same name.  Sometimes the vocal might bury some of the more interesting things about a mash-up such as this.

These mash-ups are not as simple as taking Instrumental A and fitting Vocal B to it.  It's actually a lot of beatmatching separate stems and finding where their individual phrases line up.  Then to make sure they're in the same key (which actually is some hardcore nerdy music theory shit.  For example, A Place For My Head is in Eb Phrygian mode, while No More Sorrow is in Eb Harmonic Minor.  

Yeah.

Also, the song switches from 4/4 to 12/8 at the climax, but the quarter note pulse stays the same.  I kept this mix at 133, which seemed like a good average of BPMs involved.  128, 135, 133, 135, 140.  I erred slower because that 128 is the main vocal from Darker Than Blood.  With vocals, you want to try and move it in time / key as little as possible from its original key.
