Smalltown House Music from Switzerland or – to put it in other words – a minimalistic not ducked heartbeat of the collective says “Grüezi“ with finely-tuned deep beats. Re:Fresh Your Mind‘s catalogue number four is neither a homage to the Alps nor mountain lakes, rather is “Basuka/Nightshaper“ a natural yet delicous continuation of deep sound structures in even deeper spheres of electronic music. Since 2009 SmallTown Collective alias Remo and Miguel are on a continuous journey with releases on Plastic City or Noir. Hence the duo not merely carries on with their musical journey but put it on another level.

Deep synthesizer chords combined with a lush baseline state from the beginning where this journey is taking one. Supported by single 80s chords, underlining the deepness and open it out over and over again until the primary melody splits up in a new chord and does not let go of one and carries one throught the whole track. Basukaaaa!

Moosefly lets the primary chord of the original bang through your ears a la Shed, underlines the chord with a rather melancholic melody, whose chords in the course of the track become more and more intense until one expects it to peak in the break, but it remains constantly on the same level until the very end.

A pumping dark baseline and an even darker synthesizer-chord underlined with a bizarre vocal carry one through the track until the Acid-bleep sound manages to step up from the background, softens the baseline and definitely starts a new chapter of the night.

After dropping several tracks and performing at select festivals throughout the years, Ólafur Arnalds and Janus Rasmussen dedicated the year 2014 to explore the area in-between Ólafur’s more acoustic, piano-based solo work and Janus’s synth-heavy electro pop, with their collaborative electronic project Kiasmos.

By focusing solely on their self-titled debut album, Ólafur and Janus have been able to combine and further develop their unique sound aesthetics to complete an album driven by their mutual love for electronic music. Made in Ólafur’s newly build studio in Reykjavík, Iceland, a majority of the album was recorded using acoustic instruments next to a variety of synthesisers, drum machines and tape delays. It features a live drummer, string quartet and Ólafur performing on the grand piano, producing an ambient, textured sound, which makes it a perfect home listen and equally danceable record. If you listen closely, you can spot them record the thumb piano, finger snapping and even the sound of the metal grinder of a lighter slowly to replace the usual electronic hi-hat sounds, giving the album a far more intimate and unique atmosphere.

“We decided to start almost completely over with this record, so most of the material is written this year with the idea of making a record that can stand as one piece rather than a collection of songs. I am very excited to get a proper record out exploring a different territory than I am used to. I touch a lot on electronic genres in my own music but never have the opportunity to go full out electronic like we do here.” – Ólafur Arnalds

“The Kiasmos project has been around since 2009, but because of all our other projects we never really got the time to sit down and write all the tracks we always wanted to. So when we early this year finally found the time to sit down and make a full length album there was so much we wanted to try out. David Dorad is a phenomenon like this! C.A.R also known as Chloé Raunet formerly of Battant follows up the release of her album, ‘My Friend’, with single Glock’d. 

We've got the great honour of premiering the The Asphodells aka Andrew Weatherall and Timothy J. Fairplays remix of the track. GLOCK’D is C.A.R’s trademark washed out sarcasm and bleached cynicism. The track forages paths through Chloe’s dark mind. It was one of the first songs she wrote on her own, and was recorded down in the bunker with Timothy J Fairplay himself. The remix from Andrew and Tim voyages through ethereal atmospheric electronics and edges into glam-stomp territory.

For many years Re:Fresh Your Mind (R|Y|M) has been a pillar of subcultural development in the Rhine-Main area and on a national level mainly focusing on event organization. Though the events have expended lately not only in Frankfurt but also on a national level due to its musical diversity and generally speaking because of its openness towards changes in the scene.  Understandably Re:Fresh Your Mind is conceived as a platform for a subcultural exchange between artists and music lovers initiated by SKAI and his Re:Fresh family, which include a few well respected DJs. With the label-launch of R|Y|M Records earlier this year Re:Fresh Your Mind-basis enhanced its reputation in the scene and takes another step in its development. Therefore, Frankfurt based SKAI teamed up with Gorge, who is well respected for his solo-productions and of course his works with Nick Curly.
