"Piano Mix" by, in mine and many local's opinions, one of Australia's best djs, @moopie...

Moopie has been around in the scene as long as I've been clubbing (even longer). I have very vivid memories of watching him dj at the young age of 18/19 in support of DJ Nobu at the iconic Mercat (rip).. and again at Inner Varnika in 2018 (one of the most memorable dance floor experiences I can remember to date)..  a selector who can do it all.. from electro, to non-club, to experimental and d&b, to minimal, to techno, to tech house... 

Here, the multifaceted, technically wizard-like DJ, NTS show host, and curator of the incredible @acolourfulstorm label, showcases his non-electronic, ambient leanings with a stunning mix filled with rare "piano" studded oddities... no one does it better

ETHEREAL - BEFORE YOU CAME

I actually thought of this melody while I was out in the forest, I have a voice memo where I'm like humming the guitar, then I'm like, "acid pluck, come in", and sing my best acid synth impression. 

Music theoretically, this was very boundary pushing for me because it was the first song where I intentionally went out of key. I start the song in C# minor (aeolian) but I very quickly start using Bb textures. It's only revealed later when I switch to Locrian that that was where the Bb was from !!

Now this is so awesome: During the riff I play Locrian chords which are so unresolute on their own, but since we previously established the aeolian as the key, every time I hit the D# of Locrian, it gives your ears something to hold onto, since D# is the second scale degree of C# Aeolian, it gives you this "almost home" sensation amidst the chaos and unresolved floatiness of the Locrian scale.

I can't wait for my next song, I'm going to try and do some walking up the circle of fifths for a jazzy colorful solo – and it's water themed, since all my songs HAVE to be nature related

3rd re-upload because I completely redid all the mixing and vocals AGAIN, and this is the mix im publishing...

Also guys I mix and produce everything I'm crazy, this took 147 hours...
