Welcome to Squares Podcast! For first episode, we are excited to introduce Roto, a talented DJ and producer from Girona, Spain. I have long been an admirer of Brian Cavender's music. Under the name Seafoam he has been producing some of the most excellent laid back and dream state, deep house music.

Since as far back as 1999 he found a home on labels such as Guidance, Straylight, and Lo-rise Recordings. A 13 year haitus led to Seafoam productions having a higher stock price than facebook on Discogs, making original copies something you handle with care and try not to scratch. 

Rue De Plaisance stepped up in 2017 with a collected works compilation which marked the return of Seafoam. Since then we have been gifted with regular nuggets of house on a regular basis. If you head over to Brians bandcamp you will find even more music to discover. 

I was delighted when Brian agreed to curate a mix. His request was to create a downtempo offering of all his own productions.

D’abord comédienne, elle a trouvé en la musique qui a toujours fait partie de sa vie une nouvelle alliée pour s’exprimer. Adepte des teufs de journée, elle affectionne aussi tout particulièrement les petits matins aux sonorités bien deep. Quand le dancefloor devient un espace de liberté mental et de connexion avec soi et les autres, alors voilà le parfait petit dej de Cloutch.

Inspired by the late 90s clubbing scene in St. Petersburg, Velvet began DJing in 2005, performing in clubs in his hometown and across Russia, as well as at Tresor and Heideglühen in Berlin a few years ago.

From 2014 to 2022, Velvet was a resident DJ at Stackenschneider club in St. Petersburg and the head of the Near Mint event series, where DJs such as Tristan Da Cunha, Brawther, Dana Ruh, Cab Drivers, and Martinez, to name just a few, have performed.

In 2022, Velvet decided to move to Spain to continue his musical journey in the Levante region.

1. How and where was the mix recorded?

As you know I'm based in Valencia, so, this mix was recorded here, in my living room with the pair of Technics, Ortofon needles and Pioneer mixer

2. Can you tell us about the idea behind the mix?

The idea was to select and combine my favorite records at the moment from 3 decades (90's, 00's and 10's) to represent to DSS my perspective of electronic music

3. What are you up to next? Projects, ideas…

Continue to study Spanish (actually in my class we nearly finished B2 level, wow) and live my new life here in Spain. As you know, I'm not producing the music, but I'm very passionate about making "edits". So, hope soon I'll share some of them that i made during the past years

4. Lastly, for you what is Dance, Shake, Swing!?

Music label and one of the best party series in Barcelona in terms of invited guests that play music there. DSS! is the team who have the same vision and very similar taste of the electronic music that I have, so, this is love from the first sight :)

A mainstay in the underground in Vancouver, Sirena's signature sound ranges from micro and minimal house to some well timed breaks, to interrupt the flow briefly, before bringing the dance floor back up.

Our longtime friend Pascal has finally managed to record a LIZECAST. It was worth waiting for. There is not much more to be said about Pascy, who had moved from the beautiful Saarland to Berlin a few years ago to focus more on music.
