A self-described ‘messed up rhythmist’, the
dark and dense musical world and frequencies
of Impak is something which many drum & bass
fans will be familiar with. The individual wave
forms he created always get their own time to
talk. His high levels of bass modulation, as well
as his weird digital textures have drawn in a
global audience which will be waiting for this next release with a keen ear. The international DJ/producer, born out of Spain, explores his digital evolution within each one of his tracks. Technology is the key and his conceptual miscegenation is the tool in which he does this. It’s a way in which he’s explored clubs and festivals in over ten different countries, playing in as many as fifty cities around Europe. His residency in Spain’s Industrial Copera gained him international attention and after releasing on a wide range of record labels, he’s had over twenty releases on the market.
All these numbers are dizzying for an artist, even for one who’s been in the game of production since he was seventeen years old. So, it comes as little surprise that he’d come under the radar of C4C, a genre changing imprint which has been running for over two decades. Having already collaborated with one of its head honchos Optiv, he’s about to unleash his ‘Perceptions’ LP on the C4C imprint.
Featuring ten colossal tracks, from the crashing drum work of ‘Global’, right through to the tech-driven madness of ‘Unhappy End’, Impak goes for the jugular. Collaborations such as Impak and Kung’s ‘Anywhere’, Impak, Optiv and CZA’s ‘Neurons’ and Impact and The Clamps ‘Passengers’ bring a host of other mainstay names into the mix. Whilst standalone records ‘Tremor’ and ‘Mastodon’ continue the harmonic highs and slamming breakdowns which Impak has become renowned for. All-in, the ‘Perceptions’ album is a massive catalogue of work. For it to be made welcome in the home of C4C makes total sense. With their commitment to changing the musical landscape and high-arching production, the combination of C4C and Impak music was a match which they knew would send shockwaves throughout the wider scene.

Anywhere (feat. Kung)

OZMA makes his NEUROPUNK RECORDS debut for NRPNK006, bringing his unique fusion of jump up and neurofunk styles to the label for the aptly named KILLAH EP. As a longtime veteran of the Russian drum & bass scene OZMA has operated out of Saint Petersburg for over ten years, during which time his works have seen releases on labels such as Playaz, Serial Killaz, and Time of Night Recordings. Now, he joins the growing ranks of the NEUROPUNK RECORDS label alongside fellow Russian artists such as Gydra, Teddy Killerz, and Mizo, presenting a four track display of his sonic power for NRPNK006.

UNKNOWN LANGUAGE then closes the EP with a decisively tech focused edge as the steady rhythm of its bassline cuts through an indecipherable vocal sequence atop an unstoppable percussive rhythm.With the KILLAH EP, OZMA displays his years of experience in the Drum & Bass scene on the recently founded NEUROPUNK RECORDS label, delivering four tracks unified by his fusion of the genre’s myriad tonal palettes for NRPNK006.

After thirteen years and over ninety releases, Med School has stacked the chairs and closed its doors. As a final farewell to the label, the ‘Med School: Graduation’ compilation celebrates the life of Hospital Records’ once sister label, as well as the musicians and culture that defined it, with 23 brand new tracks from label stalwarts such as Bop, Keeno, Etherwood and Whiney as well as the new blood that was always so important to the label’s experimental output.

In Med School fashion, the album brings together a myriad of drum & bass stylings and beyond. From the microfunk movements of Bop to Illexandra’s warped emergency warnings, Lakeway’s upfront grime beats to the unique electronic musings of Frederic Robinson, A.Fruit and Kimyan Law.

Representing the serene side of Med School is Etherwood’s ‘Nowhere To Go But Everywhere’, alongside beautiful contributions from Keeno, Natus and Polaris. The tribal infusions of Royalston’s stepper ‘Mark’s Shibari Groove’ and Lung’s techno-fused rabbit hole ‘Stop Crying’ switch up the pace to reflect the breadth of Med School’s outputs. The compilation also calls back to the very beginnings of the label with a special VIP treatment of S.P.Y’s first release in the Hospital camp, MEDIC1 ‘Black Flag’.

Whiney not only brings in his deep new stepper ‘Close To You’ but is also the man behind the continuous mix on the album, seamlessly bringing together all 23 tracks for one final salute to Med School Music.
