This was a short spontaneous and improvised live session for the videostream at the Nolte Winderwunder-Sommerloch-Geburtstags-Gala @ Brauhaus Nolte, Lüneburg, February, 20th 2021.

Aquarian - The Snake That Eats Itself

Canadian born, Berlin based producer @Aquarian makes his full length album debut The Snake That Eats Itself on Bedouin Records. This record follows his collaborative EPs with Deapmash as 'AQXDM" and is his first solo release since his 2016 experimental mixtape for Quiet Time.

Nearly five years in the making,The Snake That Eats Itself is Aquarian's most complex, diverse and emotive work to date, plunging his trademark UK sound-system / techno hybrids into a self-contained, cinematic universe streaked with heavy influences from industrial, IDM, drone and dark pop music. Written in Brooklyn, New York, in a deeply transitional, yet seemingly endless period preceding his relocation to Berlin,the title of the album refers to the Ouroboros, a mythological serpent symbolizing the cycle of birth and death and infinity itself.

The Snake That Eats Itself pits Aquarian's most abrasive and brutal moments next to his most wistful and introspective. Viscerally thick layers of tape saturation envelop the album as sludgy synths ooze against brittle atmospheres; breakbeats fragment, explode and disintegrate into swarms of delay and noise; scorched, metallic percussion - sampled from a year-long demolition and construction project next to his apartment - forge the rhythmic backbone of the album. These elements, however, seamlessly make way to startlingly crystalline and shimmering ambient passages, offering a sense of reprieve and balance.

Janus: Transition Part 1

Made using a Doepfer A112 8 bit sampler, various other Doepfer modules, LSDJ midi synced with a LSDJMC2,  a home made matrix mixer with feedback loops, and home made spring reverb. All the panning and envelope manipulation was done with a dual VCA and an VCLFO (with a voltage inverter).

I edited the samples using a Mac running Audacity and dumped them to the A112 using a script called MAKEDOEPFER written by a member of the Doepfer forum, which converted my Wav's into sysex files. Thanks to Zoe for this!

The track was inspired by Asimov's character R. Giskard Relentov and the sample was taken from his final speech.

The aim of Rejekted Kauses is to create meditative atmospheres out of the noise found in rhythm, percussion and the cycling beats that can happen in the midst of chaos. Philosophically based in the idea of Iconoclasm and meditation; expressed in live performance as the 'noise shaman' of Northern CO.

Making noise music on and off in Northern CO for over 20 yrs principle member Ragz Rejected has found permanent boundaries within the personal noise project Rejekted Kauses. Having played FoCoMX numerouse times as well as hosting a monthly noise night at long missed GNU Gallery Rejekted Kauses has become a staple of Fort Collins noise over the last 9yrs.

Methodology involves piezo mic'd percussion rigs that include garage door springs, pipe, street signs, delay, and samples.
