Dishing out his own part - and what a choice cut! - of the Bassiani gospel through the RYC waves this week, Georgian wizard Kancheli fires off a stupendous two-hour round of his immersive take on techno music, beautifully merging cinematic depth of field with hi-impact kinetic grooves. A former percussionist and Jazz head, Kancheli flexes the width of his musical palette to compelling effect, clashing full-blown functional DJ tools against abstract-adjacent flights to form his own dynamic yet hypnotic dance grammar away from normative constraints and ephemeral fads. The result is a bumpy, shape-shifting masterclass of a mix, bridging the gap betwixt proper floor-focussed explosiveness and more inward-gazing extrapolations. Complex and refined, a techno work of art.

Rill is a young DJ producer from Potsdam, Germany. He is the co-head of the Berlin based label Syntop. Undoubtedly, Rill get his inspiration from early 2010s techno. His track selection is atmospheric, yet hard-hitting and groovy. Through the moderate but precise use of synth & FX sounds he manages to add depth to his productions and thus creates an overall hypnotic experience.

Affiliate of the ever trustworthy Hayes Collective, as well as the SYXT connection, Stockholm operator Franz Jäger steps in our weekly mix series with two hours of utterly cinematic techno for the heads. Busting the invisible frontier between floor-focussed functionality and inward-gazing meanderings, the Swedish producer has us abseiling down a much fascinating decorum of mazy architectures and suffocating ambiences. Behind a curtain of iron-hard austerity and industrial-informed punch, a luxuriant jungle of minutely crafted sound design reveals itself, mysterious and enveloping as it gets. Make yourself at home, for Jäger certainly knows how to treat his guests with bespoke care and distinction.

Feral & Spekki Webu : Convergence of Ethereal Realms

Emerging from the magnetic allure of Mo:Dem Festival's Swamp stage, https://soundcloud.com/feral_music & https://soundcloud.com/spekkiwebu delivered a live-set experience that firmly planted itself into the collective consciousness. Monument is privileged to share the set that marked their second harmonious collaboration, weaving a sound tapestry that continues to resonate.

Their performance at Mo:Dem Festival 2022 was a testament to techno's evocative power – combining FERAL's ethereal undertones rooted in Rome and Spekki Webu's enchanting rhythms hailing from Delft.

The duo's collaborative magic didn't halt there. By August 2023, they graced the stages of Dekmantel Festival ’23 aan ’t IJ. With Feral's renowned prowess in audio engineering and Spekki Webu's described aptitude as a 'snake charmer' for his intricate selections, they lifted audiences to interstellar heights. Fans are abuzz with excitement for their forthcoming live-set project at Positive Education on the 4th of November.

Beyond their joint ventures, Spekki Webu's skills extend to sound design freelancing, and he is renowned in post-audio production for films. Feral, on the other hand, immerses himself in the heart of Rome, running a studio where he excels as a freelance mastering and mixing engineer for various clients.

While you indulge in this Monument offering, allow your anticipation to build: a joint release on Aube Rouge, Feral's esteemed label, is slated for Winter/Spring 2024. This project, birthed from their combined expertise and shared sessions, beckons as a tantalizing next chapter in their shared journey.

Al Wootton has been a prominent figure in UK dance music since his early records as Deadboy. Since 2018 he has been producing music under his own name on his own TRULE label drawing on his love of dub, UK garage, techno and jungle to create a forward pushing UK sound. His Mix for OL Presents is a combination of previous and unreleased Al Wootton tracks as well as some of his recent favorites and tracks from his upcoming album “Witness” to be released on Trule next 16th of July.
