contacted me about 2 years ago and offered me a baseline stem from an Alpha Roots collaboration he was working on with Joerxworx. About 2 years ago, that is crazy! I, of course, said I would take the stem. I needed to finish some other songs that were in the works before getting to play with Alpha Roots’s baseline. By the time I was ready to connect with the vibe, Russia had invaded Ukraine, unfathomable tragedy had begun, and the world was changing again. My song writing reflected the horror of what was going on. By the time all the stems were gathered, vocals were recorded, and the song was mixed and mastered, another war had broken out and the horror continued. 

Massive thanks to Mountain Songs for  trusting me with these blessed Alpha Roots stems. So glad Jamie, Jonathan, Joerxworx, and Russ got a chance to work with Alpha Roots again. Alpha Roots lives on. 

And the song is ready just in time for Halloween!

Seagull surprised me with this lovely song as a gift for my 70th birthday, featuring his playing on acoustic guitar, and likening our friendship and musical comradery to a "walk in the morning dew".  I was beyond honored:)  Then the thought occurred to him, "what if Ed, Dan, Peter, and David joined me on my walk?"  Peter's words set the stage comparing our friendship (and lasting friendship in general) to fine gold "hewn from so much more than mere common ground"  Ed's gorgeous electric guitar defines the melody, Dan's synths and Clara's vocals add depth and emotion, and I get to decorate an already beautiful production in the left and right channels.  It is now a magnificent 70th birthday gift, enriched by my musical bond and friendship with these fine artists, and one I want to share with you dear listener.  Be blessed as you walk with us "in the morning dew":)

Hey… Thanks for dropping by. This new song is a melding of several ideas, maybe too many for one song: Second chances in life, idyllic places to live, regrets, dreams, satori, changes we experience in our lives that change us, and relationships. Years ago, a friend visited me after I had moved far away from the city to the mountains. It had been a while. He went back home and told everyone that I had really mellowed. Ha. For context: I do not live by the sea, although I have been to many different coastal places in my lifetime. Musically, I suspect this song will evolve into many different versions. I already have three versions, all recorded in the last couple weeks. I chose this one to post because while snow shoveling the other day, this version was stuck in my head, which surprised me, because I like the Blues version better. There is an enigmatic version where I sing a couple bars in another language… and no one recognizes me. I put that one on the back burner as I need to flesh it out some more. This is my second song with Steve Ring.  We play classical music together.  Steve plays cello and I play viola.  Steve also is an excellent piano player.  This song is polyrhythmic.  it is in both 3/4 and 4/4.  You may notice the piano triplets throughout carrying the 3/4 time signature.
