"Jamming w/ Jazz Bass"

A little excercise that I finished today. I made this track originally some time ago playing a VST bass, but after I finally got a Jazz Bass recently I wanted to try to play and record something with it, and here we go! 

Played by me using sounds from different VST instrument collections (Rhodes V8 Pro electric piano, Native Instruments Komplete Now collection & Abbey Road 1980s Drums, UVI SonicPass collection). The bass was played by me with a Fender American Ultra Jazz Bass (Cobra Blue). 

Sorry about the mistakes with the bass.. But after I sold my beautiful G&L Interceptor bass guitar in the late 1990's it has now been maybe 25 years since I played bass the last time, and I'm practicing:) 

Especially playing with the correct timing and with right & consistent velocities was really challenging. I also actually played the bass line maybe too loud, so had to do some EQ'ing and stuff afterwards.

Tired of cold short days? Me too. Let's party!!  I haven't posted anything new in a while so here's a 10 year old tune that will be new to some of my peers, and those who've heard it have already gotten over the shock. This is an exercise in licentious sexual innuendo and lewd, funky sounds. It's what happens when an otherwise innocent childhood is spent listening to Jimmy Castor Bunch, New Birth, Slave, James Brown, Funkadelic, etc, and there are some biblical metaphors thrown in for good measure. It can be downloaded in case I decide to run for Governor and need to quickly hide all scandal.

Hey… The angle of the sun is getting higher in the sky, and is also melting the snow. The rabbits, deer and various birds that frequent the yard are happy about that. I am as well. I was surprised to see several robins that had overwintered here. Usually they hightail it when the autumn chill sets in. That makes for some strange and sad truths about climate. I cleaned out the growing containers in the small greenhouse, and will plant them with all sorts of salad greens, from seed I grew and saved. This year’s planting will be a couple weeks earlier than usual. It is still too cold outside to do much beside snow shoveling, and there is over a foot of snow on the ground, from recent storms. It is almost mud season though, where the snow melts and mud abounds. In some places here, it is best not to travel along certain roads as the mud, known as ‘gumbo’ here, sticks to everything like glue. Once, I was walking and the mud built up on the soles of my boots, as I was uplifted off the ground by a couple inches. OK… this song. Not really a ‘song’. More of a moment of exploration. A lot of distorted overdrive. And some new ideas I stumbled upon on slide guitar, while recording. All of which is a great way to make peace with the world, as it is today. It seems I tend to make ‘noise’ in those sad moments of personal reckonings. And lucky for you and your ears you get to listen to it. Maybe not though, huh?
