Well known for remixes of the Thompson Twins, Shawn Christopher, Clive Griffin and the Pet Shop Boys, Morales’ Red Zone moniker was conceived during the Def Mix legend’s formative years at the renowned club sharing the same name.  
 
50 Weapons and Monkeytown’s Shed adopts his Head High alter ego for a remix that draws the original’s vocals into the spotlight before planting thunderous kick drums beneath whilst dusty pads operate above. Meanwhile, Ostgut Ton affiliate Ryan Elliott crafts a reimagination that incorporates breaky percussion, a rumbling low end and sweeping astral synths.

After a bit of a hiatus due to travels spreading the sound of tomorrow globally, we are back with the 10th installation of our White Label Series with a feel good project from our boy J-Louis.

This installment of our White Label Series comes from 21 year old LA-based producer and drummer, J Louis. You may remember Mr. Louis as the resourceful young man who experimented with beatmaking on his iPhone in the past. This time, he's been working with Ableton and other music creation programs to develop his signature sound further.

This White Label series sees J-Louis moving a into some more uptempo and housey vibes while still keeping his signature bass heavy sound intact.

SWL010 has J-Louis remixing rising vocalist @rachelfoxx in the "Before You" jam, sampling Raphael Saadiq & Teedra Moses Ft. Corey Tinay's "I Want You Back" in "Can't You See" and collaborating with dope producer, @orijanus on "Hot N Ready".

The first Musik For Autobahns was a delight: softly-softly ambient and subtle cuts from the likes of Move D, Suzanne Kraft, Roman Flügel and plenty more besides. Even amongst Rush Hour's bounty that year, it stood proudly out. A ripple of excitement went through BR HQ upon finding out Gerd Janson was lining up a second, with no shortage of marquee signings all coming correct with their A game.

A number of heads come together to translate these thoughts into sound - from Fort Romeau's Drive-esque "Seleno" joyride through to the propulsive "Melancholy" of Disco Nihilist. Perhaps none elicit as many feels as the enveloping opener from Leon Vynehall though.

As well as being a mesmeric mimic of accelerating down Bundesautobahn 5 at daybreak, "Midnight on Rainbow Road" got our Debut nod for three main reasons: firstly, it kicked off last year's sublime set from Gerd & Ata (so, about time); second, it's a welcome return for Mr Vynehall after a richly deserved breakout year; third, dude's got previous with N64 titling. And that's something we can all get behind.

We do like Ptaki a lot here at LYO ; in case you missed it, the duo delivered a delightful blend for our mix serie (and we even had the pleasure to play with one of its member in Manchester few weeks ago). Ptaki take another journey with Transatlantyk imprint to bring you the remixes of their well received debut album. Alongside unreleased dub from the “Przelot” sessions, you’ll find two great reworks here, both by contemporary heroes of the fast rising Polish house scene ; Eltron John and Das Komplex.
The real gem here is Eltron’s 10 minute version of “Sloneczny Pyl”, taking a whole A Side for a reason. It’s a straight up peaktime house banger destined for a summerjam status. Catchy female vocal loop from the ambient original is surrounded here by massive warm bassline running on a dubwise tip, layered tribal drums and percussions, and a few cisterns of raw, oily effects, guitar licks and pouring keyboard pads. And that enormous breakdown too... Eltron’s trademark “big room deep” vibe mixed with Ptaki’s slice of sampled psychedelia created a track that’s already a road-tested crowd favourite ! We already premiered a couple of tracks released through Tel-Aviv rising label Malka Tuti, including Khidja's epic " Drums Of Taksim" which also ended up in our Top 100 2015. For its fourth release, the imprint is welcoming Japanese producer J.A.K.A.M. and his "Rebirth" EP, consisting of two original tracks and two remixes by Dreems and Versatile Records head honcho Gilb'R, who needs no introduction. The latter delivers a stripped down and soaring dub version of "Rebirth" which slowly builds up to an intense and spellbinding experience. This beauty is out on April 18th with a hand-printed silk-screen cover and limited press. Must have !

As I looked upon our home rock, I saw many natural features. I witnessed a large river meandering slowly along for miles, passing from one country to another without stopping or hesitation. I also saw huge forests, extending along & across several borders as if these divides didn’t exist. Kapote loves the funk. And he loves Blaxploitation movies. The black underground cinema from the 70's. Kapote samples dirty talk from these movies and puts it on his bass lines. Melodic basslines with a heavy 1070 funk vibe. Bass lines that can create a sexual tension. Kapote adds a few warm, jazzy rhodes piano chords and a lot of reverbs and filtering. And the music rolls. Often more like a jam then like a constructed piece of music. In the highest points this music is pure endorphin. It's 4 to the floor - but it has a soulful analogue sound. Kapote says he was listening to records from old Detroit label Red Planet and Parisian downtempo pioneers Motorbass and La Funk Mob while making this record. And yes, the vibe is there. Like these guys Kapote likes to build his musical trips around snippets from old funk vinyl. Adding beats with vintage drum machines and creating an eclectic trip into a universe full of jazzy bits, noisy drums and dirty samples.
