A rising Brazilian star with a growing portfolio of high-quality releases to his name, Tonaco makes his Meanwhile full EP debut with the 3-track "Disurbia / Avalon / Crackdown". Hailing from the central Brazilian state of Toncantins, famed for its cerrado, rivers and soybean plantations, Tonaco has planted his own roots within the underground dance scene with a growing list of releases to his name. From a 2019 debut on Transensations with "Vollus", a further quarter century of production credits have followed with work appearing on such leading labels as onedotsixtwo, Mango Alley and Moonlight. After first appearing on July 2022's "Meanwhile Excursions" compilation with "Sententrional", Tonaco now returns to Meanwhile with a first full solo EP. Opener "Disurbia" is a growling, rumbling affair that immediately revels in an unsettling atmosphere of effects and growing synth swells. Building easily within a sonic framework of hypnotic rhythmic energy, a smooth arpeggio brings a moment of light melodic touch at the breakdown before the huge low-end dynamism creates and a seething, head-shaking monster reminiscent of early 2000s progressive breaks. A high-energy backdrop fizzes across "Avalon" with its rapid-fire hi-hats and metronomic snare while a syncopated bassline adds groove aplenty. Entering its mid-section, an enticing and free-flowing middle eastern sounding melody lilts across the mid-range, full of mysticism and visions of desert landscapes. Hitting its stride once more in the third movement, a growling spoken vocal and driving rhythm create a mesmerising sequence towards the outro. The final track sees "Crackdown" continue the percussive narrative of earlier tracks as a hypnotising combination of tom fills and carefully placed melodic rhythms combine to create a soundscape full of vitality and brio. Building at the half-way stage with a wonderful bassline pattern, a light and airy melody then fills the sonic spectrum into a gloriously evocative breakdown of echoing keys and spatial effects, before dropping back into the smooth rolling groove of toms, hats and driving beat. Making a further name for himself with a trio of assured and immaculately produced tracks, Tonaco excels with "Disurbia / Avalon / Crackdown".

Da Luka's roku imprint continues a strong start to the year by welcoming VegaZ SL to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from the progressive house hotbed of Sri Lanka, Vegaz SL has established himself with a mesmerizing groovy sound that continues to fuel his country's dancefloors. On the strength of early tracks in 2021, the Galle resident would go on to compile an impressive resume across the next three calendar years, showcasing his music via Droid9, Mango Alley, Movement Recordings, Sound Avenue, WARPP and his own La Foresta imprint; while some of the world's most highly regarded DJs championed his work along the way. Now, beginning 2024 on a strong note, VegaZ SL debuts on roku with 'Not In Never Falling', alongside remixes from Paul Hamilton and Kyotto. 

The release concludes with Kyotto making his label debut with the lone interpretation of 'Me And I'. First emerging in 2017, Sri Lankan artist Kyotto was quickly tipped as one of his country's most promising progressive house artists. Releases via JEE Productions, Mango Alley, Sound Avenue and his own CRFT Music imprint have been recent discography highlights, while Hernan Cattaneo continues to be steadfast with support. Continuing to rise out of his country's electronic landscape, Kyotto now debuts on roku with a heady take on 'Me And I'. Focusing on a slightly darker monochrome, the Colombo resident takes aim at the dancefloor for what results in a slow-burning seven-minute journey. Gyrating rhythms and deep chugging basslines set the course for snatches of flickering percussion and shapeshifting effects. Looking to bring a surreal yet dramatic response, the main break shifts the narrative through anticipatory arps and a growling underbelly, before a contemporary build cues a stripped back drop and prophetic finale, one which an astute dancefloor will certainly appreciate.

Analog Jungs’ Constellation Music closes out 2024’s second quarter by showcasing new interpretations of Ivan Aliaga’s ‘Robotica / Black Whale’. Released in March of this year, the two-track showcase marked the Argentinean artist's label debut and was met with much praise. Ivan’s prophetic approach to progressive house has been both unique and elusive, in turn generating a litany of A-list DJ support, from Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren to John Digweed and Guy J. As the year’s second half quickly approaches, Constellation Music revisits Ivan’s ‘Robotica / Black Whale’ double-a-side release, showcasing with new interpretations from Digital Mess, Jamie Stevens and label bosses Analog Jungs.

The release concludes with Analog Jungs returning to the label with the second and final interpretation of ‘Robotica’. Made up of Argentinean artists Claudio Cornejo and Gustavo Ruarte, Analog Jungs have been revered figures in the progressive house underground for the better part of a decade, earning praise from genre tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren. The duo's colourful, club friendly sound flourished as a result, finding a home on some of the genre's trendsetting imprints, such as Clubsonica, Mango Alley, Meanwhile, Or Two Strangers and The Soundgarden. 2023 proved to be an impactful year for the Cordoba duo, with the formation and subsequent success of Constellation Music, a record label which now stakes a claim as one of progressive music’s best new imprints. Continuing to build on the label’s success, Analog Jungs now return to Constellation with a stellar take on ‘Robotica’. Bringing a progressive state of mind, the duo carefully balances the themes from the original with their own melodic groove-centric sound. Timely effects and murky atmospheres steal the air atop thunderous beats and rippling grooves; while a tastefully twisted break and enlightening drop seal what is the ultimate dance floor bomb to round out the release on a high note.

PREMIERE: Ivan Aliaga - Robotica (Analog Jungs Remix) [Constellation]

Mike Koglin and MoodFreak team up under their Sudhaus alias to deliver yet another club gem: "Pulse."

A relentless growling 303 bassline sets the tone right from the start. As the track evolves, it unveils all the signature Sudhaus sounds, with soaring Moog drones and reverse atmospheres.

Gradually, an almost trancy riff emerges, slowly establishing its uplifting character in the breakdown.

Rising progressive house star Kebin van Reeken delivers a stunning remix, preserving all the essential elements while infusing the track with a slightly more progressive vibe.
