Every time Guy J releases his solo material on Lost & Found, the world of music lovers is ready for a treat. His latest conceptual masterpiece consists of two tracks ranging in length from over 7 to almost 11 minutes and a total run time of over 18 minutes. The opening track, Last Standing, blends the progressive motifs with an out-of-this-world anthemic breakdown. The piece is simultaneously melodic and nostalgic but manages to deliver a new, previously unheard edge to the technical execution of the production. The closing track, Fire, uses temperamental arpeggio resonances, constructing a mystical soundscape for a joyride into a higher state of perception. Guy’s sonic skills work as a hypnotic tool. Antrim’s Or Two Strangers opens the new year with a first-time collaboration from K Loveski and Nicolas Benedetti. Russian artist K Loveski has been a beloved figure of the progressive house underground for well over a decade. A series of releases for Omid 16B’s Alola Records spearheaded what has been a thirteen-year creative swell. The Saint-Petersburg resident now boasts a resume highlighted by releases via Nick Warren’s The Soundgarden, Balance Music, Mango Alley and Or Two Strangers, while also earning the support of Hernan Cattaneo and Guy J along the way. Meanwhile, Argentinean artist Nicolas Benedetti has enjoyed a quick rise since first emerging in 2019 with releases via 3rd Avenue, Droid9 and Or Two Strangers affiliate Strangers Beats. The Buenos Aires resident would quickly earn the praise of progressive music tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren, Alex O'Rion, Mariano Mellino, Nicolas Rada and more, while landing key projects via Balkan Connection, onedotsixtwo and SLC-6 Music. Now, combining their extensive forces for the first time, K Loveski and Nicolas Benedetti unveil a three-track showcase for Or Two Strangers entitled ‘Laurana’.

The release begins with the duo masterfully synthesizing their talents into the progressive anthem that is ‘Laurana’. Mountainous grooves and wavy lines make for a smooth hip swinging energy, while cosmic creativities and ethereal phrasing add colour and depth across the first movement. Rhythm remains locked, while energy multiples with each successive pass, as percolating synth maneuveres and robotized vocals provide a bridge into the main break. Tension peaks across the interlude with colourful sonics and collapsing waves of light uniting in a pyrotechnic vortex, perfectly setting the stage for a thrilling finale.

The second selection ‘Spiral Nothing’ continues the pure progressive lean of the release with cosmic effects and driving percussion arrangements blanketing a character-rich capsizing groove. A touch more atmospheric than its predecessor, misty sonics provide a colourful backdrop for sweeping effects and clustered stabs to drive energy into a memorable break. The intuitive musical dialogue held between the duo is impressive across the centrepiece, as melodic coaxes and soulful synth phrasing emerge for moments of meditative bliss, as the beats drop for a groove-centric finale.

Deeper and more elusive still is the third and final selection ‘Fashionably Late’. Thematically distinct, as funked-up bass stabs and kaleidoscopic effects ring out in timeless suspension, creating a utopian narrative where indistinct vocals and enlightening rhythms resonate in a rare combination of atmosphere and groove. A thought-provoking conclusion to an excellent first-time partnership from K Loveski and Nicolas Benedetti, an artist duo who have delivered some of their most engaging work to date here.

As Guy J’s exceptional Lost & Found imprint reaches the milestone 50 releases, they look back at 3 moments which have made the label so successful. Bristling with talent, the label has showcased the amazing Israeli progressive scene like no other. 

First up comes long time friends and collaborators, Sahar Z and Navar with their 2017 smash, When We Face Reality re-edited by an inspired Khen. Deep, soulful and utterly beguiling, the melodies soar in melancholy wonder. 

Khen is the next artist to get the remix treatment, this time from Belgian superstar Hermanez. Focusing on Khen’s incredible sound design, Hermanez builds a uniquely melodic groover from all manner of percussive sources. 

Finally, Luka Sambe’s Sooti, here gloriously reimagined by Eli Nissan. The most uptempo of the trio, Eli weaves a nuanced tail with sweeping sonics, deep pads and cleverly orchestrated toplines.

Reinvigorating their collaborative partnership Dmitry Molosh and Michael A return to Cid Inc's Replug Records with 'Integral'. Hailing from Belarus, both Dmitry and Michael sit amongst progressive music's elite guard. Their respective solo productions continue to earn play and support from the genre's premiere tastemakers Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren, while also landing them releases on Hope Recordings and Sudbeat Music. Also calling Replug a comfortable home, Dmitry and Michael now return to the label with their first collaborative project in almost four years.

Much loved for their exploration of all things progressive and groovy, the Belarus duo exceeds expectations here, delivering two stunning pieces of music beginning with the title selection 'Integral'. Set in motion by a warm, chunky foundation, its robust core comes up quickly, with layers of finely tuned drums, crunchy rhythms and squelchy synths uniting in a fiery sonic comet. Shifting energy into the main break, heartfelt harmonics and fragmented melodies gently blanket the electric underbelly, resonating on a higher frequency as tasteful modulation rises and the groove drops for a chugging finale.

Operating on a similar sonic plane is the companion piece 'Twelve Days'. Otherworldly in nature, tough beats and dark stabs anchor the journey as the piece flows through a series of pulsating rhythms and mind-bending effects. Continuing on an unpredictable storyboard, ominous overlays and percussive flashes highlight the first act, perfectly setting up an icy break. Adding further intrigue, a wave of tranquil arps provide an effervescent foundation for the duo's dystopian soundscapes, before building to a granular sizzle as a rush of drums ignites a powerful crescendo. It caps off a hugely successful project from two of progressive music's most talented artists, further solidifying Replug's place at the top of this burgeoning genre.
