Ruben Karapetyan’s RKP imprint opens the fall season by welcoming Maze 28 to the label for this debut EP. Hailing from Albania, Mario Zefi aka Maze 28 has emerged as one of his country's most hotly tipped progressive house artists. In just three short years the Durres resident has earned support from Antrim, DJ Ruby, Ruben Karapetyan, Dosem, Nick Muir, Paul Van Dyk, Stan Kolev and more, while his melodic creations have found a home on Droid9, Juicebox Music, Mango Alley. Now, following a remix of Rockka’s ‘Operator’ (via Mango Alley), Maze 28 makes a welcome debut on RKP with ‘This Is Just A Dream EP’, alongside remixes from Hernan Cattaneo & Marcelo Vasami and Fabri Lopez.

The title selection 'This Is Just A Dream' finds Maze 28 showcasing his dancefloor minded ethos. Its dominant drive is anchored by rocketing beats, phasing stabs and percussive flashes, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of prismatic melodies and pyrotechnic designs. Arriving just in time for ADE, Comet Records unveils their first Various Artists EP compilation entitled 'Delve Into Pakistan' (ADE 2023). Long a testing ground for some of the underground's freshest new music, the Amsterdam Dance Event sees artists, DJs, labels and industry brands travelling to the long-standing event, searching for what will be the fall and winter seasons biggest records. With Comet Records quickly emerging as Pakistan's premiere progressive house imprint, the label now takes another big step in it's first year by revealing their first ever exclusives collection. Label bosses Auseeb and Rabiee have carefully curated the first installment of the series, featuring new music from (in order of appearance): Auseeb, Rabiee Ahmad, Osama Satti, Hassan Tariq Khan and HAYAN (PK).

The release begins with 'Revolution' by Auseeb which sets a smooth progressive tone from the outset. Perhaps geared towards the morning hours, Auseeb's tough beats, percolating arps and glowing pads are rejuvenating in an uplifting yet calming sense, making it a unique track for the more adventurous DJ. Next up is Rabiee Ahmad who follows his 'Propaganda' release from last month with a new solo cut entitled 'Underwater'. The Islamabad resident aims squarely at the dancefloor with a retro-groove and nostalgic synth elements. The introduction of a vocal shifts the narrative across the break, bringing a greater sense of depth and emotion, before shifting energy back into the groove for a hypnotic finale. Also hailing from Islamabad is Osama Satti who makes his label debut with 'Leap to Mind'. Not only is this Osama's Comet Records debut but also his first ever release which follows on from his early beginnings as a DJ. 'Leap to Mind' works well on the strength of phasing vocal loops, stompy beats and rapid-fire percussion sequences. The main break is where the magic lies though, with some retro tangerine dream-esque synth phrasing which is sure to lift the mood of your dancefloor. 

Selection four finds a second label debutant in Hassan Tariq Khan making his first Comet Records appearance. The Blackcode founder and plastic surgeon has been DJing for several years and now notches a career first production with 'Faith'. Sleek and groovy throughout, Hassan uses a familiar sequence of chord stabs to create a buoyant framework, while haunting tones and misty refrains perfectly setup a spoken word sample across the main break; a mystical moment which smoothly transfers energy into a mood-lifting finale. The release concludes with HAYAN (PK) also making his label debut following a pair of releases via Julian Rodriguez's Massive Harmony Records. 'In Any Case' proves to be a great choice to complete the EP and showcases HAYAN's dancefloor minded ethos through traditional progressive grooves, rolling rhythms and an underlying tension which is sure to create anticipation when dropped mid-set. It rounds out a sensational first installment of 'Delve Into Pakistan', one where five rising artists unite and push country further into the global progressive house scene. Highly recommended.

The latest release from Tash's Movement Recordings welcomes Alan Cerra back to the label for a new EP. Hailing from Argentina, Alan first emerged in 2019 on the strength of early tracks such as 'Tovich' and 'Tura'. Equally adept at crafting progressive or melodic house, the rising phenom was touted as a name to watch going forward. Now nearly a half decade on, Alan lays claim to an impressive resume with Higher States, Hoomidaas, Juicebox Music, Siona Records and The Soundgarden all being landing spots for his vibrant sound, while progressive music tastemakers Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, Hernan Cattaneo, Miss Monique, Nick Warren and Tim Green have been steadfast with support along the way. Movement Recordings has also been a vehicle for Alan's high-octane productions, with a well-received label debut 'Space Dive' landing in September of last year; a project which was closed followed by a remix of 'Demons' by Nufects to end 2022. Now, continuing to build a bond with the label, Alan makes a welcome return to Movement with a three-track showcase entitled 'Blossom'.

Alan continues to explore modern progressive house sensibilities on the lead selection 'Blossom'. Sleek and refined, it’s a framework of bulbous kick drums and rippling bass tones which lay the foundation for gritty percussion and hypnotic arps to create a strong sense of cruising. Free-form melodies take centrestage across the break, bringing with them an off-note improvisational jazz-like feel, furthering Alan’s potency as an artist, and perfectly setting the course for a groovy finale. 

Selection two is the aptly titled ‘Get Loose’ which takes square aim at a main room dancefloor. As an apt barometer of where Alan’s headspace is at, it’s selection of muscular grooves, effervescent percussion and misty melodies which elevate the mood set by its predecessor. Energies shift and emotion rises as the interlude takes shape, with orbiting effects and creamy melodies tastefully building tension towards a finale that is sure to cast a spell over the listener. 

The space-dance foray ‘Perspective' follows and further cements Alan's dancefloor minded ethos. Its neo-saccharine drive is anchored by rocketing beats and a forest of robust percussive splashes, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of percolating rhythms and sweeping effects. With an energy that exudes confidence, Alan pulls from his expansive repertoire as the main break takes shape, surveying a tense and calculated build, as modulation rises to a sizzling boil for the ultimate rush to round out the EP in style.

The latest release from Higher States finds label boss Roger Martinez presenting a new two-track showcase. Comparable to the path of his contemporaries, Dutch artist Roger Martinez has found a way to create a personal universe by exploring electronic sounds, and ultimately finding his own place in the trend-driven state of underground dance music. With a career now spanning well over a decade, Roger's transcendent style has long been a favourite of the world's top DJs. Cid Inc, Eelke Kleijn, John Digweed, Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo, Nick Warren and Sasha have all been steadfast supporters over the years, and remain as progressive music continues to grow and evolve. The genre's most highly regarded imprints have also served as landing spots for Roger's hypnotizing sounds, with Lost & Found, Replug and Sudbeat sitting prominently on his resume. Also, beloved as a DJ, Roger's elusive style has seen him travel the world, enchanting crowds with his impeccable taste and exquisite programming skills. Always choosy in his projects, Roger’s 2023 has been highlighted by the ‘De Machtige Trip’ Remix Edition, a re-imagination release where fellow countryman and progressive house phenom Alex O’Rion, alongside Roger himself took to updating the beloved track in grand fashion. Looking to continue that forward momentum, Roger now returns to his comfortable home of Higher States for his first Original project of the year 'Dimensional / Renaissance'. 

Selection one 'Dimensional' lands in impressive fashion with its rejuvenating energy. Big, bold and magnificent; yet intricately crafted with perfectly contoured beats and serene meditative textures. There's a strong sense of cruising across the first movement, allowing the listener to relish in the groove, examining phrases before leaving them behind for a smudge of atmospheric colour and euphoric overlays. Balancing the mix, Roger's trance-inducing touches radiate throughout the production's second movement, adding an air of sophisticated musicality to a mature no-frills arrangement.

Companion piece ‘Renaissance’ follows with a newly sprawling, saga-like story to tell. Unique in design and execution; its undulant bass tones, orbiting effects and airy synth mutations are curative, all while maintaining a sense of urgency and spontaneity that astute dancefloors will appreciate. The centrepiece carefully reels the listener in, as thickets of buzz swell and intensify across its charming architecture, eventually revealing a cross-cultural vocal theme to send the piece into one final exhilarating stretch.

Musique de Lune opens the fall season by welcoming VITE and Hole Box to the label for their debut EP. Hailing from Mexico, both VITE and Hole Box have emerged from their country's avant-garde electronic landscape with a distinctive organic sound. Noted for their attention to detail, arcane musicality and inventive drum arrangements, the duo's craft shines through vividly, making each one of their creations an absorbing experience. The duo's combined discography is highlighted by releases via trendsetting imprints such as Akbal Music, TOR, Tale & Tone and more, while the genre's premiere DJs have been steadfast with support along the way. Having previously worked on a project for Akbal Music, VITE and Hole Box now combine their extension forces once again, making their much anticipated Musique de Lune debut with 'Midway', alongside a remix from Ilias Katelanos & Plecta. 

Continuing to evolve and impress, VITE & Hole Box deliver one of their most thematic creations to date in 'Midway'. Warm punchy beats and a rolling groove set the foundation for a smooth flow into heartfelt vocal samples, dusty percussive arrangements and a gorgeous array of orbiting effects. Mood continues to rise across the main break as fluttery motifs and harmonic refrains fade off into aquatic designs, as the beats re-emerge and the vocal flows through further evolution for a finale that should fare very well on all the daytime dancefloors out there. 'Emotional Things' proves to be a worthy compliment with it's exotic drum flurries and key changing buoyancy. Almost childlike sounding with it's playful creative lean, this is one of those feel good, unite the dancefloor type tunes for those sunrise moments.

Completing the release are Ilias Katelanos & Plecta who provide the lone interpretation of 'Midway'. Greek artist Ilias Katelanos is no stranger to the label having released 'Sud' as part of the 'Rumba Del Sud' EP earlier this year, while Plecta makes his debut following projects for Akbal Music, Melody of the Soul, Songuara, Tale & Tone and The Soundgarden. As occasional studio partners of late, the duo continue to build on their creative synergy with a gorgeous take on 'Midway'. Ilias and Plecta take straight aim at the dance floor with a beefed up, swing heavy groove which works amazingly well, and while the main themes of the original are present, they work in a more groove-centric context, keeping the full seven-minute journey both danceable and emotive to round out the release on a strong note. Highly recommended.

Nature Rec opens their fall schedule by welcoming Ignacio Corazza to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from Argentina, Ignacio first emerged in 2020 with releases via BCSA, Future Avenue and RYNTH. Often finding that sweet spot between organic and progressive house, the Argentine's productions caught the attention of Hernan Cattaneo who has been a supporter moving forward. Further successes came with key projects for 3rd Avenue, AMITABHA, Dopamine White, Or Two Strangers and The Purr. Now, following a contribution to Moonlight's 'VA Spring' collection, Ignacio adds Nature Rec to his resume with 'Ancestral', alongside a remix from Gux Jimenez.

Continuing to showcase the organic side of his repertoire, Ignacio crafts a superb lead track with 'Ancestral'. A Dj friendly intro sets a lovely mood with wispy atmospheres and effects blanketing tough beats and chunky basslines. Exotic drums and hopeful pads add a splash of rhythm and colour to what is a mature no frills arrangement, perfectly leading to a celestial sounding break and melodic finale that's well suited to the morning or daytime hours on the dancefloor. Selection two 'Childrens of the Sun' lowers tempo and pace just a touch for a deep and immersive seven-minute journey. Smooth chord changes, flurries of drums and a glowing melodic lead marry perfectly leading into the break. Tactfully building anticipation and emotion across the centerpiece, this is a lesson in restraint and it works amazingly well, as those glowing tones eventually get washed away into the framework for a groovy finish. The third and final original 'Primate' follows a similar sonic profile to it's predecessors, utilizing a clever marriage of luminous designs, orbiting effects and perhaps the most emotive break on the release, which in turn translates a beautiful message to the dancefloor.

Providing the lone interpretation of 'Ancestral' is Gux Jimenez who returns to the label for his fourth appearance. The Colombia artist was an integral part of launching the label back in 2020 with a remix of Kamilo Sanclemente's 'Jadhe' which served as Nature's inaugural offering. Also laying claim to releases for Droid9, Mango Alley, Movement Recordings, SLC-6 Music and Univack, Gux now returns to Nature with a progressive minded take on 'Ancestral'. The main mood from the Original translates well here, as Gux adds his own melodic taste with great use of vocal elements and plush chord stabs for an uplifting journey to round out the release on a feel good note. Highly recommended.
