In this podcast we yarn with an amazing Ni Vanuatu Tanna musician and song writer Desmon Wolam. Desmon is a multi-instrumentalist living in Espiritu Santo in Vanuatu. Desmon regularly performs as a professional musician across the islands and coordinates a range of community events and activities. Desmon’s songs carry the messages of his culture alongside his passion for family and climate change activism. Desmon is one of several First Nations musicians, notably men, who spoke passionately in our yarns about using music as a platform for climate change activism. Desmon’s stories also speak to the powerful combinations of First Nations traditional or kastom musics with introduced or colonial musics such as Christian hymns. This is a powerful yarn delivered by an incredibly talented musician. During the yarn you’ll get to hear some of Desmon’s debut live album recorded with Remedy Researchers in 2016.
