Solid Steel (16th May)This week the show has a distinct 80's feel about it starting with a mix from Cut Chemist featuring remixes and songs from 'Funk Off', a compilation of music by 1980's French post punk, industrial, minimal collective Vox Populi! and Pacific 231. Cut Chemist discovered their material in 2004 while on tour/record digging in Milan where he picked up a compilation featuring their track “Megamix”. Originally released in the 80s, the track was not rooted in disco, hip hop & DJ history but rather post punk and industrial influences. Music Concrete is what the collective would have perhaps described their approach at the time. “Wild Style on dust” was how Cut’s collaborator Tom Fitzgerald described it on hearing it 20 years later. Finding this record ultimately led to Cut Chemist tracking down the group, bonding over shared aesthetics and getting their blessing for this collection, which includes unreleased tracks, photographs and little-seen flyers and art from the group. The vinyl and CD are released in the UK on 9th June through A Stable Sound.
 
DK picks up the reigns in a similar vein, but starting with Illum Sphere's industrial edged Spectre Vex and then it's strictly 80's, including music from the UK that directly influenced Vox Populi, with tracks from Throbbing Gristle, Cabaret Voltaire and A Certain Ratio. Music from New York also features with Liquid Liquid and Death Comet Crew featuring Rammellzee and Italy's version of Delia Derbyshire, synth wizard Doris Norton, plus the Francois Kevorkian produced collaboration between Jah Wobble and Holger Czukay.

my set in room at freerotation festival 2014, recorded straight off the desk with no edits or anything, so please excuse the occasional slip - i thought it would be worth uploading as these 90 minutes might have been the most fun i can remember ever having as a DJ. 

not pictured: 19th century manor, large chandelier hanging from ceiling, enormous free party soundsystem, sweltering 40 degree room, lots of sweaty people having The Best Weekend Ever. freerotation is as good as it gets.

Mixpak FM 084 comes from Mexican producer, @Zutzut. A central part of the NAAFI family, as well as Extasis, Zutzut's music encompasses a contemporary Mexican club experience in the age of the internet. From his rough-but-nostalgic club track 'Jala' to his Nguzunguzu x Killatonez refix, his tracks often abstract pop music into a weirder sphere, or unite different sonic worlds - from kuduro to dembow. His musical manifesto seems as progressive as his politics; tagging his first EP (El Pack 1) with "3RDWORLD" and affiliating with Extasis, a label with 'No borders. No Gender'.  

His Mixpak FM runs through NAAFI family offerings, as well as producers from around the world who are interacting and creating along similar lines: from Endgame to Venus X, Lotic to Sami Baha.

Brooklyn by way of Chicago, one may have seen Antenes djing at various scummy warehouses and bars around NYC over the last years. A local favorite and long time solider deep in the ranks, she has a refined yet rugged djing style and production chops galore as seen on her debut L.I.E.S. release which came out last month.
