They look to us for signs that the light still exists, somewhere at least. 
They warm their hands on our skin, 
and we can feel the dryness setting back in, cracking our brown emollience we’ve been flaunting. 
It’s as if we only trust the body that not too long ago lay on a beach under the happy blazing sun, naked. 
Surely the bones still give off a glow, like the emberred tinder and logs that look whole, but with a careless touch, 
would shatter in an instant.

I drink green tea and write this 
while the sun pours in the kitchen window. 
I feel that soon enough the Mexico sun will catch up with us. 
It will find my address here and singe a message into my skin, 
like a poorly-marked postcard that finally found its destination, 
as I sit on my stoop. 

I imagine our love will always be hot, or at least some degree of burning.
