A 5th of 12 planned attempts at track / song creation on Ableton Live (and the new virtual studio I "built" around it). Its been over a year since I could return to this task. This isn't the type of track that usually gets done on Live, which is why I choose to try it.

Somewhere in the Multiverse, The Enforcers aired on the TVA network between 1969-1974. This is a 7th of 12 planned attempts at learning track creation in Ableton's Live. As this isn't a compositional form that's normally associated with Live, creating this track using Live, kept it interesting for me, ~~~~

After two years away from my learn how to create on Ableton Live project I returned to it by starting 7 tracks at once and rotating through them until they were all in Live's arrangement view. This track was the last of the seven I started, the most "laid back" and unfocused   
and  (for no particular reason) the first one I "finished"... I decided to use it  to experiment with pushing the percived loudness barrier higher than I normally would have... Because of the long gaps returning to this task I set for myself, it always feels like two steps forward, one and a half steps back but it's still fun for me when I do get. to it. ~~~~

(Learning Curve 8 a.k.a.) A Laid Back Night at the Olympus Mons (Lounge)

It took Many attempts to make an acceptable version of this, the fourth of seven tracks I started at once, after two years away from my, learn how to create, exclusively in the box, on Ableton Live project... This was (so far) the most difficult (and so, the most useful) of the Learning Curve series for me)... That Soundcloud changed their codec (for an even lower quality one) in my 2 year absence from this project (and now seems to have random fluctuations in playback level) !?!) did NOT help... The remainder of the Learning Curve exercises will likely appear on youtube going forward (where I can count on consitant codecs and playback levels).

(Learning Curve 9 a..k.a) The Negotiation

I created this on an ipad app I wanted to learn called “Tabletop” which I approached with a creative blank slate. I could have done a track like this on Cubasis or Beatmaker2 in less then a third of the time it took to do on Tabletop but I wanted to get to know it well so I was willing to pay the price in time and in trying to creatively deal with the limitations tabletop imposed on me. I wont use Tabletop in this way again but it does have it's place in the app collection.

This track feels really odd to me.but.. I'm compelled to share it. ~~~~

This is me teaching myself Ableton Live 10... I took material from another platform that (for technical and artistic reasons) I would have otherwise abandoned and imported it into Live 10... Then, I began experimenting as much as possible with the corrective and creative tools within Live and Max for live to see how workable I could make the material. 

After I got what I could from that learning curve, I put together what I was able to "salvage" from the original material and then mixed it (which reminded me why I stayed away from live for this long... it simply cant hold a candle to just about any linear D.A.W. out there... but it does have it's own unique strengths which, I'm still learning).

Updated with the original mix. I find it stands up better to the streaming codec Sound cloud uses. 

2nd pass at Ableton: This time the goal wasn't to give myself problems to solve, just practice workflow. I did however entertain myself with only using plugins purporting to emulate 60-70s gear thus trying to give the track a, recorded in the early 70s sound (trying that... not quite there yet... I;ll try again around Learning Curve 4 or 5)

I got what I wanted out of this exercise and I had fun (which right now. along with learning, is the point... although I still maintain Live's arranger view is about 2 decades behind just about any other Daw; including the free ones.)

(Learning Curve 2 a.k.a.) She's A Pro (2nd attempt at Ableton Live)

The 3rd of 12 planned exercises to get comfortable with Live.
I waited to work with the 10.1 beta as it added some traditional daw workflow improvements... By beta #17 it was stable enough for me to wrap this exercise up.

I'm feeling more comfortable with Live in its new beta version so this is the last of these "learning curves" that'll focus on generating content (and deliberately problematic content) solely to practice process and I'll move more towards using it as a traditional daw and then start exploring it's daw as an instrument design ethos (especially with all those max for live add-ons... and maybe a Push 2 controller).

On to #4 ~~~~!!!

(Learning Curve 3 a.k.a.) Weaving The Eventual

This is the aural journal of a fourth pass at learning track production (as time permits) on Ableton Live... This one was approached an hour or two at a time, over months (whenever I could set aside some time) and the last such month was spent taming and mixing what that staccato approach left me with.

Going forward, a Push 2 controller will be involved in the workflow and I’m hoping it will help me get more done with the time I have to continue through the last eight learning curve attempts I’m committing to.

PUSH(2)ing ahead to number 5. ~~~~~
