Nikko.Z's Dopamine White caps off a great year by welcoming Zuccasam to the label for his debut EP. Hailing from the UK, Zuccasam first emerged in May of this year with a release via new imprint Electric Eden Records. Immediately recognized for his groovy melodic take on progressive house, the London resident would go on a creative swell across the next six months, releasing follow-up projects for Electric Eden, while also adding Distant Desires, Nightcolours and Night Light Records to his resume. Now, capping off what has been a great first year, Zuccasam debuts on Dopamine White with a three-track showcase entitled 'Island Smile'. Zuccasam continues to explore modern progressive house sensibilities on the lead selection 'Island Smile'. Muscular and energetic, it's a framework of powerful kick drums and chunky bass tones which lay the foundation for gritty percussion, squelchy stabs and orbiting effects to create an intense first act. Free-form melodies take centrestage across the break, bringing with them a euphoric, otherworldly feel, furthering Zuccasam's potency as an artist, and perfectly setting the course for a huge peak-time finale. Selection two is the equally impressive 'Laser Break' which takes square aim at a main room dancefloor once again. As an apt barometer of where Zuccasam's headspace is at, it's a selection of shapely grooves, effervescent percussion and misty melodies which elevate the mood set by its predecessor. Energies shift and emotion rises as the interlude takes shape, with broken beats, swirling atmospheres and emotive melodies tastefully building tension towards a finale that is sure to cast a spell over the listener. The space-dance foray 'Feartone' follows and further cements Zuccasam's dancefloor minded ethos. Its rolling drive is anchored by rocketing beats and a forest of robust percussive splashes, tastefully building to a wild-eyed intensity of percolating rhythms, gated vocals and panning effects. With an energy that exudes confidence, Zuccasam pulls from his expansive repertoire as the main break takes shape, surveying a tense and calculated build, as melodies dance and shimmer, ultimately peaking with a powerful drop for the ultimate rush to round out the EP in style.

In a world awash with music, we all have those tunes that are special to us, heart-achingly magnificent moments preserved in aspic in our memories… but which never got the moment in the sun they so richly deserve. 
A DJ can campaign for such wonders ceaselessly, sharing them far and wide. Or you can go one step further, as Dave Seaman chose to do here with an anthemic, inspirational track that he had held dear for many years: 'Hold On' was one that got away for me. I loved the original back in 1991 and always thought it never got the recognition it should have, so it had been in the back of my mind for 30+ years that one day I'd revisit it. The idea resurfaced when I found the original 12" whilst sifting through my vinyl collection, and via the magic of AI managed to extract the vocal to give it a go," explains Selador's head honcho. 
The pedigree of 'Hold On' cannot be in doubt, co-written / produced by the inimitable Youth, king of dubwise excursions from Killing Joke to Blue Pearl via Dragonfly Records, The Verve and so many more on his storied CV. He has given his blessing to Dave's mighty revival of his baby – as, crucially, has singer Shola Phillips, who imbues the impassioned words with the perfect but oh so hard to achieve balance of power and subtlety, a timeless tour de force vocal performance. "I'm really happy with the result and 32 years later, the lyrical sentiment has never been more pertinent" concludes Dave. 

Hold on indeed.

Oovation who knows a thing or two when it comes to mind blowing productions, delivers an irresistible track that kicks things off nicely with the melancholic vibes setting the tone. He roams effortlessly through progressive inspired melodies, while the sultry chords sit wonderfully on top of the driving percussive foundation. Oovation takes it up a notch by adding an extra layer of depth, whilst upping the flow with cleverly programmed drumming and his trademark FX elements, without destroying the essence of the main groove. His work deserves to be branded 'essential' in any sense of the word.

On remix duty we welcome Canadian Jares for his debut on the label. Jares who is known for his melodic and refined sound, keeps the ethereal theme of the original alive, as the pulsating bass powers along, before its drum fills and general drive all combine to do the talking. Like something from yesteryear yet sounding totally fresh - This massive touch up takes the energy quantities up a level and increases the drive with stripped back and lucid elements, before the energetic groove creates a blanket of warmth that will put a smile on your face.

The second remix comes courtesy of Italian duo Anido, who bring a deep melodic edge to 'Echoes'. Their rework creates a good feel vibe from the word go, as the atmospheric and driving vibe keeps you moving with warm tinkling sounds, a smooth edge and some nicely effected sounding pieces that continue building to culminate into this amazing groover. We basically have the formula for a bit of a monumental outing. The sparseness is the key here, as this restrained gem works its magic while it plays away, creating a stunning glow and an air of sophistication.

With the talent on offer, Oovation's 'Echoes' manages to deliver a message of sustained musical relevance in emphatic fashion to warm the soul. Not to be missed! 'Echoes' sees a worldwide release on March 1st, 2024 via all well-known digital content providers. Not to be missed!

Kevin McKay has been a mainstay in the underground since the early nineties and on many different fronts. From recording with Omid 16B as Sixteen Souls and creating the Sir Henry’s anthem, ‘On My Mind’, to discovering and co-producing Mylo’s seminal album, ‘Destroy Rock & Roll’, he’s earned his place in the house music hall of fame. Throughout he has spearheaded the Glasgow Underground imprint where he continues to break a wealth of new talent and showcase legends of the scene. All this while serving up masterclass DJ sets around the world and at various  residencies in London.
