t’s time to transcend the physical and evaporate into the Realm Of Consciousness as Afterlife unveil the next installment of their influential compilation series. Showcasing the outlet’s diverse output, which is broad yet cohesive, Realm Of Consciousness brings together a range of artists. From more established names such as Joseph Capriati and Patrice Bäumel, to new acts like Beswerda, the compilation continues to build the all-encompassing legacy of Afterlife.

Realm Of Consciousness begins with Colyn & Innellea’s ‘Obnoxious Desire’, a deep sombre opener which gently guides us into an esoteric alternate dimension in sound. From there we’re transported into a life-affirming world where darkness and light are merged, and juxtaposed, co-existing on the same auditory plane. In some instances dark dominates, while in others, it’s the light that acts as a beacon for our expedition into the infinite realm of consciousness. By the time we reach the closing chapter with Gardens of God’s ‘BOILeR’, we’ve experienced melancholy, euphoria, joy, sorrow and a myriad other emotional states.

Release Info: 
One of TAU’s core family members and an artist who we discovered and nurtured from day one, Innellea returns to the label. Over the last couple of years it’s been amazing to watch Innellea grow and succeed, with his music catching the attention of labels such as Innervisions, Diynamic
and Afterlife. Now he’s back with TAU, delivering a neat four-track package that represents his unique, melodic approach to electronic music. The Hypolation EP is another big stride forward for this artist, who continues to impress with his production prowess.

First up is ‘Returning Spaces’, which begins with a rather sombre atmosphere, stuttered beats and rumbling bass. Hushed vocals weave anemotional narrative, while the instrumental becomes increasingly emotive, Innellea building up the tension to great effect. This one runs at just over three minutes, but it packs plenty of feeling into that time.

Next is the title track, ‘Hypolation’, which demonstrates Innellea’s ability to inject raw feeling into his dance floor compositions. A myriad layers buzz and swirl around each other, cultivating an illuminating atmosphere from the start. Within seconds you’re locked in, riding the wavelengths
until you reach the dramatic breakdown. Innellea teases the main riff back in with dexterity, and we’re immersed in the second half of the cut, which maintains its adventurous spirit.

‘Pathological Passion’ could be an apt description of Innellea’s love for making music. This one has a steady beginning, leading into a solemn, melancholy melody. The emotionally-driven core gently unfurls to become all encompassing. Innellea really tells a story with this cut, switching
things up around the two-minute mark, before the energy of the first half returns in abundance.

Finally, ‘The Arrival’ takes us into the mystical depths of the Middle East, with Arabian rhythms and instrumentation. A euphoric, trance-esque breakdown guides us into more exotic programming, it’s warm, energising and life-affirming. A perfect demonstration of Innellea’s versatility and his desire  to channel a range of influences into his productions.

Intense title track ‘Alea' kicks off with a deep dark cavernous groove before the stirring melody enters, working its way deep into your mind. Coeus uses the breakdown to increase tension, cranking up the dial as a driving bass-line and crashing beats are released for maximum impact. A highlight of the recent Tale of Us open air Atomium set ‘Alea' is guaranteed to feature in many important DJ playlists.

Reasserting his club credentials, the Portuguese producer returns to the dancefloor for a slimline yet uncompromising take on techno that nods to the LP’s green-fingered theme. “Regado” (which means “to water”) spreads itself out across three minutes, snowballs with intensity, and is as cool and dramatic as a winter’s night. Alfa Romero’s combination of hardware synthesizers and modular systems creates a powerful and organic sound which translates to a unique aural feeling.

The title track ‘1001 Nights’ is a prime example, an emotive melody suspended above a spacious techno framework. The formula heads further into a trippy, euphoric headspace (‘Learning To Fly’), offers serene moments of ambience and dreamy arpeggios (‘Moonlight Tide’’).
