Toccata Moderata do Timbre de la Porta Principale
lyric monologue for soprano and electronics (fixed media and live processing).

A woman dealing with Alzheimers wanders in her own mind. Her memories and thoughts now exist in a tangled state, where her reality lives timelessly between the past and the present. She calls for her late husband, Pipón, and the echo of her own name, Margó, replies as a remembrance that feels incomplete. Her mind goes back to moments of her life during their 60 years together as a couple, forgetting for a period of time that he is no longer alive… that he now lives in her thoughts and memories. These fractals of her own memory are triggered by a doorbell, a touch on the front door (toccata de la porta principale), an original musical composition that her husband once composed in the 1990s by creating rhythmic patterns with their home’s doorbell. Her journey takes us through moments of happiness and calmness, but also pain and anguish, as a reflection of the complexity of love and human beings.

They both rest along the coast of Colombia, by the Caribbean sea, where they met and lived most of their lives. I like to think that my grandfather waited for my grandmother’s own time to depart, singing to her through the echo of the ocean waves…

Una mujer afectada por Alzheimers deambula en su propia mente. Sus memorias se encuentran entrelazadas, viviendo en una realidad sin tiempo donde el presente y el pasado conviven. Ella llama a su esposo, ya fallecido, ''Pipón'', y el eco de su propio nombre ''Margó'', responde como un recuerdo que ahora se siente incompleto. Su mente regresa a momentos de su vida durante los 60 años que vivieron juntos como pareja, olvidando por momentos que él ya no está vivo... que el ahora habita en sus pensamientos y memorias. Estos fractales de sus recuerdos se activan con el sonido del timbre de una casa, una toccata do timbre,  composición original que su esposo creó en los años noventa al repetir con patrones rítmicos el timbre de su vieja casa. Esta historia que la mujer vive en la obra nos lleva por momentos de felicidad y calma, asimismo de dolor y angustia, como una reflexión de la complejidad de los seres humanos y el amor.

Ambos descansan en Colombia, junto al Mar Caribe, donde se conocieron y vivieron gran parte de su vida. A veces pienso que mi abuelo Pipón espero a mi abuela Margó decidiera cuando partir, susurrando con paciencia desde las olas del océano....
