It's that time of year again.  MIAMI.  Sun, fun, and the entire dance music industry descending upon South Florida for one massive week of parties and industry events.

This is my promotional mix for this year's Winter Music Conference / Miami Music Week.  I'm particularly happy with how this mix took shape.  I covered a broad range of tempos, moods, and artists who's sounds have been instrumental in defining my own.  I started this sonic journey at a deep and groovy 118 bpm, and it gains momentum throughout, peaking at 126bpm, taking us into some later-night tempos and energies, while being reflective of my range as an artist. I've also included a new remix of mine, with a forthcoming release on Wulfpack.  Some of these tracks are brand spanking new.  Some are not.  And some are straight-up classics.  All of them have no expiration date, as proper progressive dance music never goes out of style.  Turn this up loud and enjoy.  :)

Despite an injury, feeling pretty off-center, and no opportunity to musically prepare for this set, I showed up and just did the best I could.  And you know what?  It was totally worth it.  It felt great -- not perfect by any means, but felt great nonetheless.  What I played was well-received by those in attendance, and most importantly by Joris, who had a nice thing or two to say about things when I was done.  This set will always stand out in my memory for many reasons, and I couldn't be happier to share this set with you all.

Technism Mix Series #93 [ RJ Pickens guest mix ]

Ah, Miami...  Hello again, old friend.  We've got some real history together over all these years, don't we?  It's time to head down to warmer climates for a few days of music, and in keeping with tradition, I'm putting up my annual Miami Music Week showcase mix.  I love making this mix, because it's a great time of year to check-in with what music is really moving me presently, what music has become a favorite of mine over the last 6-8 months, what selections of my own work and my label's work I want to showcase, and what new and exciting tunes I want to share with the world.  It's a beautiful exercise in curation and putting together a complex puzzle with seemingly-infinite outcomes.

I'll let the music and tracklist (below) speak for itself, but I'm pretty happy and proud to share this annual project with you all.  And also keeping with tradition, I've stayed up super late the night before heading to Miami and arriving with a bit of an unrested handicap, but it's never stopped me before, and I don't see that hindering me this year either.  Anyway, press play and turn this up loud if you're able, because this mix begs to be played over a system with a fat low end.  :)

As one of the more insightful chats w/ @enamourmusic on decision making as an emerging artist, we went deep into the fateful events that lead to opportunities with dream labels and collaborations. 

When asked about goal setting: .. "You have to have quick wins, pretty early on in your learning curve and in your journey to stay motivated. So for me it was setting very achievable goals and super longterm goals, but making sure that there was enough in between where I was constantly reinforcing the idea."

"I’m extremely happy with how quickly it's happened. People say "Oh wow, three years, that's really impressive." But I subscribe to the mentality that time should only really be measured in hours when you're talking about this kind of stuff. So when I meet people and they're like, "Oh, I’ve been producing for 10 years, I'm so jealous." So I ask how many hours per week they produce, and they say "Oh, well I don't produce every week. And sometimes if I get off work early, I'll do two hours on a Friday, but then I'm gone all weekend." 

So you've been doing two to five hours per week, let's say. So a couple hundred in a year. But I was going at least eight hours a day on the weekends and then three to five hours a night during the week. So three years sounds like a short amount of time, but in hours it was a lot more time than you would think..."

"The really big piece of advice that I give to people, especially my close friends that are trying to do this, is that whenever you think you're ready, whenever you have a song that like a big DJ played or you got really good feedback on and you think you're finally ready to like launch the project, take six more months. Just don't do it and take six more months. Because if you strike gold the first time and it's a huge success and you can't follow it up with more tracks, it's going to be for nothing because the whole attention span of the scene will pass over you."

"There was a long period of time where I was definitely working equal time at my day job and production per week and, and I didn't really have a life outside of it. I was lucky where a lot of my friends, firstly they understood and they were willing to accept that. But also that they are really into the scene as well. So when we did hang out, we were at a show or something, which is almost working because you're getting inspiration, you're seeing what the DJ is doing. So all of my free time was really devoted to music and in some way or another."

This Italo-Uruguayan was exposed to the early days of his local scene, and became a DJ at a young age. In the late 90s he started his residency at Space Ibiza's Terrace in Punta del Este, which was twice named as "The Best Club in South America" by MUZIK Magazine (UK) and remained in operation for 12 years. Since then, he has been invited both nationally and internationally to participate at events hosted by Burning Man, Desert Hearts, Music Is 4 Lovers, Spin Nightclub, Hard Rock Hotel, 4th&B, IVY Nightclub at Andaz San Diego, Organic Thursdays, Wave House among many others. He's played alongside Quivver, Fabio Giannelli and Darin Epsilon, to name a few.

Repetto aired a live radio show for 2 years, and his current project Technism Mix Series found appreciation among a selective crowd internationally and gained collaboration, participation and support from over 110 world class DJ/Producers including Roland Klinkenberg, Martin Roth, Robert Babicz, Nick Muir, Stas Drive, Ray Kajioka, Colin Dale, Hernan Cattaneo, Riley Warren, Chris Udoh, Tom Lown, Gary Beck, Andrea Cassino, Arnold From Mumbai, Cumiks, Aux n Morris, Amine Jemail, Gorge, Kevin Andrews, DFormation, Justin Steel, Nathan Clement, Bala, Enzo Muro and Timo Garcia. 

Technism Mix Series have been based out of Chicago, San Francisco and San Diego. Some shows were recorded in Rome, Berlin, Amsterdam, London, Paris, Buenos Aires, Barcelona, Madrid, Las Vegas, Los Angeles, Philadelphia, Miami, Mojave Desert, Mumbai, São Paulo, Montevideo, Mexico, Costa Rica, Ukraine, Malta and Egypt.
