Luka Sambe and Filter Bear make a welcome return to Cid Inc's Replug Records with ‘Ekhi XIX'. Based in Sydney, the duo's deep, emotive creations have long been favoured by progressive music's top tastemakers; with Guy J, Hernan Cattaneo and Nick Warren all being steadfast supporters. Although frequent studio partners, the Australian artists had appeared on Replug in a solo capacity previously, with Filter Bear's ‘La Rinconada'  and Luka's ‘Shepherds In The Stars' coming in 2016 and 2017 respectively. Now following collaborative efforts for Lost & Found and Manjumesi, it seems only appropriate that the duo return to Replug with a joint two track artist showcase. 

In what has proven to be an ongoing creative partnership, close friends Luka Sambe and Filter Bear have managed to stretch their sonic palette with each successive project. This sentiment holds true once again with the unique combination of rhythm, musicality and soul in the lead piece ‘Ekhi XIX'.  Spanning eight magical minutes the duo explore waves of tranquil motifs and funk fuelled sub bass, all perfectly laced with layers of exotic percussion. Energetic yet spacious, its airy quality elevates as the swirling arrangement drops into a blissful centrepiece. Elegant and tasteful, the interlude transfers energy into a smooth build, rising once more and perfectly segueing into a dreamy finale.

Rounding out the release is ‘27S' which finds the Aussie duo moving closer to peak time territory. Borderless in approach, the piece is characterized by a rolling, sub heavy groove and deliberate, techno inspired framework. Character and shape abounds, it's a low end to move mountains, which fiery percussion, tight arps and chord stabs add further rhythmic flair to. Exotic drums then come in waves, as vocal choirs and glowing overlays descend as the breakdown ensues. Increasingly tense yet achingly gorgeous, a joyous piano motif and resounding drum roll are juxtaposed perfectly, leading to an energetic drop and final act for the ages.  

With 'Ekhi XIX' Luka Sambe and Filter Bear continue to build on their creative synergy, delivering two more creations that will be firmly etched in the hearts of progressive music fans, adding nicely to a joint body of work that already contains some of the genre's finest moments.
