A self-described "rave-generalist", Sard is a DJ, producer, and Live PA artist living in Detroit. Combining his passion for perfect dancefloors and the deeper technical aspects of dance music, his performances and productions have maintained a steady placement in the Midwest and beyond. Sard channels a life dedicated to music study into his sound, blending influences of North American techno and rhythms from abroad. His releases on Fixed Rhythms, PPRZ, Amphiboly, and Codec Recordings have been played globally by friends and heroes alike.

Overland is a rave inciter and beat architect shaped by her upbringing in small town Alberta, Canada, and an itinerant way of life guided by the magnetism of disparate musical influences. 

With notable sojourns in London, UK and Vancouver, British Columbia, Overland’s journey has taken her from organizing hometown warehouse raves and beachside renegades to high profile bookings at Berlin’s Tresor and Boiler Room x Igloofest Montreal. 

Echoes of the myriad of people and places that have helped her flourish can be heard in her playful, high-energy mixes 
and simmering sets that weave morphing basslines with propulsive beats. Her driving, dynamic and acid-laced productions have been released on Lisbon’s Naive and New York’s Sweat Equity. Berlin-based label Paryía run by Marie Montexier hosted her record last year with a remix by high profile ambient trio Purelink, and Priori’s Canadian imprint, GARMO released her most 
recent record with praise from Hardwax. 

Fresh off the back of a newly minted residency for 
Rinse France, Overland’s mark on Canadian dance music continues to thrive and shows no sign 
of slowing down.

TML has been a vital force in the Midwest electronic music scene for nearly two decades, defying easy categorization while pushing an evolving, boundary-pushing sound.

Growing up in the northern suburbs of Chicago, TML (aka Peter Lansky) would journey into the city to immerse himself in underground culture at illicit loft parties and venues like the Fireside Bowl and Metro/Smart Bar. Inspired, he moved to Minneapolis and swiftly kicked off a residency at the iconic First Avenue nightclub. Running weekly over the course of eight years, the Too Much Love party brought together diverse local acts and international names, won nightlife awards, and cemented his reputation as a curator of unique sounds and killer parties.

After ending his weekly residency, Lansky began releasing his own music. TML’s productions closely mirror his genre-crossing DJ sets—a functional, rhythmic collision of acid, electro, and the darker corners of the hardcore continuum. Releases on Scuba’s Hotflush Recordings and his co-owned Always Human Tapes label highlight a blend of raw energy and lived-in sound design. 

TML can be found pushing this idiosyncratic approach across discerning corners of the underground. He excavates new sonic spaces on a long-running monthly show for Bristol’s Noods Radio and as a resident DJ for acme. collective's infamous basement parties. Whether headlining Midwest raves or clubs from New York to Berlin, performing live, or featuring on iconic mix series like Tim Sweeney’s Beats In Space, TML continues a midwestern legacy of speaker shaking electronic music, championing the weird and wonderful sounds that make dark dance floors transcendent.

Shanti is a Chicago-based DJ who curates eerie, otherworldly, and longing sounds. Music has always been a means of coping with the otherness and hybridity Shanti experienced throughout her life. While she is a philosopher and writer, Shanti has felt limited by words and has recognized the transcendent ability of music to express concepts, states of consciousness, and conflicting emotions. Philosophical themes of existential angst and ambiguity are explored in her sets through ethereal, foreboding techno, angsty EBM/dark wave, and squishy acid sounds. Music has always been a way for her to cope with the darker realities of existence. Shanti’s sets weave a story of the simultaneous despair and yearning that are intertwined with the human condition and illustrate an intentional trajectory.

For the September edition of our mix series, we welcome Detroit artist 2lanes. His love for music began early through drumming, and he started crafting his first beats on an MPC with floppy disks while living in New York.

Shaped by his first rave experiences in New York and the energy of Detroit’s scene, 2lanes brings a pristine and immersive sound. His music often acts as a visualization of environments and stories. Whether it’s the outline of characteristic buildings in his city or tales from friends about raves, he imagines what those buildings or moments would sound like in music.

The recording he created for us takes inspiration from the many forest and outdoor festivals he has attended recently, as well as his love for extended blends of deep techno. The result is a journey that pulls you in from the very first moment and lets you drift effortlessly into the woods.

An extremely underrated  Naarm based artist, WTP (@worktheperipherals) for number #182. Miles has been releasing music under his WTP alias for a few years now - with releases via Hannah D's @thespacebetweenus & Millu & Pjenne's @companionmelb & more. 

Locally adored & undeniably talented, Miles' releases are consistently luscious & groovy.- reminiscent of the pure bliss freedom of raves during late summer at home. Housey, progressive & full of rare-cuts - this mix is a perfect extension of MIles' style & a great fit for the series. Welcoming Spring in full bloom in Australia :)

DJ Hockey - The Great Beyond 2025

Don’t have many rules in life but one of them is that whenever a new mix by Pjenne comes out, to stop what I’m doing immediately and put it on. And probably am not alone here. 

Like many people, Pjenne’s mixes have been go-to’s, essential and always-classy additions to a landscape of noise and clutter. 

Like your favourite mix CD that never left the space•ship stereo. And no matter how many times you listen, it seems to get better and better with each play. They’re timeless, they’re crucial and the amount of care and love poured into each one is apparent as soon as you hear the first blend. 

Often compiled and cooked up over the course of a couple of years, they have the kind of craft and expertise that can only come from doing a weekly radio show for over 6 years, being a staple of her local Naarm scene and being an all-round legend. We’re pleased to report this mix is no different and has been on repeat since it arrived. 

Appreciate this is a bit of a gushy write up, but sometimes you’ve got to say it how it is, and anyone who’s a Pjenne Ultra will understand what a big day this is at space•lab HQ.

Shinsuke Goto, curator and resident DJ at Tokyo’s Mitsuki, contributes a finely tuned mix for this edition of Unrush. I heard him play in Tokyo in 2024, where his DJ set revealed a deep sensitivity for the trippier side of electronic music - a quality that also flows through this mix.

Here, Shinsuke explores spacious soundscapes and intricate layers of sound design, moving between stillness and subtle motion. Mostly beatless, yet punctuated by gentle rhythmic currents, the mix unfolds with quiet tension and release. It’s a carefully shaped piece that draws the listener in through detail, texture, and a refined sense of flow.

There are few names as widely loved in clubland as Bristol-based producer Omar McCutcheon, AKA Batu.

His label Timedance, currently celebrating its ten-year anniversary, has been instrumental in shaping a certain corner of contemporary electronic music. It champions a mutant, rhythmic, UK-flavoured sound that escapes any obvious genre touchstones, as well as spotlighting the careers of artists like Verraco, Ploy and Hodge who push musical and cultural boundaries.

In this Exchange, McCutcheon sat down with Resident Advisor's editor, Gabriel Szatan, in London to reflect on the label's Afrofuturist philosophy, its journey over the past decade and the sense of purpose and direction that have developed over time. He spoke about the impact that scenes beyond the UK—such as China, South Africa, Brazil and Mexico—have had on his productions and label curation, and how they offer fresh perspectives that contrast with Europe's sometimes overly nostalgic take on dance music. He also discussed finding positivity in a dark time, and music's enduring potential to inspire and connect.

In a town full of transients and small town implants, Steve Noah is a born and bred Chicago native. His versatile yet homegrown style is indicative of his roots in Chicago where although techno and house are at the base, the branches lead to the varied genres he's embraced from disco and ebm to juke and footwork. Noah has been DJing and producing since 2011. In that time he's made quite a place for himself performing on some massively impressive line ups. In addition to these gigs, he's also made radio contributions to WNUR locally, as well as reaching further audiences through Full Groove on C89.3 Seattle, SubFM, SutroFM and most recently Rinse FM. While all of that may already be the case, we only expect his talent and reputation to grow.

Based in Chicago, R&D is a music event/mix series focused on nurturing new sounds, experiences and atmospheres while exploring the music and culture it was born or mutated from. Techno, electro, EBM, bass, breaks, club and beyond.
