Ubik is a DJ and artistic programmer known for his open and benevolent vision of music and audiovisual arts, as well as for the ecological and social commitments he has been defending for almost 10 years.

After years as artistic director of the Sarcus Festival, he is now a member of the Sarcus Soundsystem DJ trio with Jacky Jeane and Olga B. Known for their luminous and addictive dub, electro, bass and techno selections, Ubik is also developing another musical facet inspired by post-punk, the quirkier sides of pop and a blend of dub, ambient and idm. It is through this lens that he composed an hour of hazy deep and trippy music for the 6th episode of our lazed mix series.

PREMIERE: Mutual Identities - Ace High [The Hand You Were Dealt, Particle Magazine]

In a city full of transients, Steve Noah is a born and bred Chicago native. His versatile yet homegrown style thrives in chaos and a wild imagination, indicative of his roots in Chicago where although techno and house are at the base, the branches lead to the varied soundbeds he’s embraced from nu wave and ebm to breakbeats, juke, jungle, footwork and the vast continuum of sonic spaces in between. Noah has been DJing and producing since 2011. In that time he’s made quite a place for himself performing on some massively impressive line ups. In addition to these gigs, he’s also made radio contributions to WNUR locally, as well as reaching further audiences through SubFM, SutroFM, Rinse and NTS. As the co-founder of the Night Logistics collective and Chicago + Midwestern Regional Cities Manager for Resident Advisor, Steve is undoubtedly a focal point of the US underground scene.

Chicago-based artist, resident DJ and co-founder of Dark Heaven, Vorp fosters catharsis in blending raw techno, acidic electro, bass heavy breaks, all with left-field underlying nuances. Performing everywhere from intimate bars, clubs, and underground raves, he has shared the booth with artists such as Matrixxman, Sterac, and Nikki Nair.

He immigrated at a young age from Minsk, Belarus to Louisville, KY, where his musical upbringing was rooted in classical piano. Chicago's underground electronic scene and queer community have relentlessly influenced him after 11 years of calling the city his home. 



As an organizer and A&R of Dark Heaven, he aims to facilitate inclusive spaces with thematic events while uplifting underground DJs and artists on the label. Keep an eye out for the label's 3rd release coming out the first week of September, featuring a 4-track split EP with Biemsix and Stecks.

music_is brings you Brera Som Som by Amandra

Amandra, half head honcho behind Ahrpe Records, goes for subtly evolving and droning atmospheres. With releases spanning both a wide range of electronic genres and record labels: Nous'klaer Audio, AD 93, Tikita or Semantica, just to name a few; the French producer based in Toulouse illustrates with coherence his own vision of acid and tribal rhythms that can be presented with either bright and soft feelings or through a darker, more disturbed path.

Prorokini:
"This one belongs to a phase where I was exploring the sampling side of electronic music. Until that moment I was building 100% of my drums and ideas based on raw drum machines and some processing, then started feeling how it would feel to sample some raw external beats from a drummer for instance and process them my way. I didn't pursue that sampling lead much afterward because it felt like a boring approach to me at that time but a few tracks stood out anyway, like this one, which I'm very proud of. The synths are clearly programmed on the Prophet 08, it can't go any more Dave Smith Instruments than that, if you like them, go grab that synth!"

Brera Som Som EP
As always with Amandra, there is a blend of poetic and soft hidden touch given to the music through carefully crafted personal track names. Brera Som Som is a 4-tracker EP, recorded back when he lived in Warsaw Poland, showcasing the artist's ability to navigate through niche genres. It comes as a double 12" package cherry-topped with four intelligent and eclectic remixes from artists with their own unique identity: Shielding, Whylie, Martinou and Brainwaltzera.
