The Basel based DJ and Producer channels a deep synergy between polyrhythmic hypnosis and tactile sound design, shaping a sonic landscape that pulses with kinetic urgency.

This mix combines field recordings from Nairobi with sub-heavy mutations, traversing a blend of organic drum patterns that sit in the liminal spaces between bass, percussion, and club experimentation.

𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲 / 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗼𝘂𝗻𝘀 / 𝘄𝗵𝗲𝗿𝗲 𝗱𝗼 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗲?Kombé, he/him, Basel

𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗺𝗶𝘅I wanted to capture the sounds I’m currently into — a blend of organic drum patterns that sit somewhere between techno, bass, and dubstep. While recording, I was listening a lot to T++, whose shifting, intricate rhythms always strike me. The beginning also features field recordings from Nairobi, evoking a kind of big city energy — sometimes soothing, sometimes stressful.

𝗵𝗼𝘄 𝗵𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗲𝗻𝘃𝗶𝗿𝗼𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗽𝗮𝘀𝘁 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗶𝗻𝗳𝗹𝘂𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗱 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗽𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗮𝗰𝗵 𝘁𝗼 𝗺𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗰?For me, music has always been tied to identity — finding it and carving it through sound. My goal was never just to make functional club tracks, but to tell stories that resonate with me and my friends. The constant exchange with Mafou and Mukuna has probably shaped my music the most.

𝗬𝗼𝘂 𝗿𝘂𝗻 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝘀𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗶𝘁𝘂𝗮𝗹𝘀, 𝗰𝗮𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘁𝗹𝗲 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗶𝗱𝗲𝗮 𝗯𝗲𝗵𝗶𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗹𝗮𝗯𝗲𝗹 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝘀𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝘄𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗽𝘂𝘀𝗵?We founded Somatic Rituals with a clear vision for both the sound and the visual identity. We’re always drawn to specificity and rhythmic complexity, paired with a sound design–driven approach and a general interest in futurism. The idea is not to repeat what’s been done, but to push electronic music into new territory — music for the heads, for people who enjoy the weird and challenging. A strong identity linked to our fathers’ home continent, Africa, is also at the core of the label.

For the September edition of our mix series, we welcome Detroit artist 2lanes. His love for music began early through drumming, and he started crafting his first beats on an MPC with floppy disks while living in New York.

Shaped by his first rave experiences in New York and the energy of Detroit’s scene, 2lanes brings a pristine and immersive sound. His music often acts as a visualization of environments and stories. Whether it’s the outline of characteristic buildings in his city or tales from friends about raves, he imagines what those buildings or moments would sound like in music.

The recording he created for us takes inspiration from the many forest and outdoor festivals he has attended recently, as well as his love for extended blends of deep techno. The result is a journey that pulls you in from the very first moment and lets you drift effortlessly into the woods.

Some mixes arrive right on time. After talking about this for a while, I’m so glad to finally welcome Natalie to In Machines We Trust. (@nataliepopss) Brooklyn + Vancouver Island

Her mix is a deep and playful dive, rooted in 90s textures, downtempo moods, and percussive late-night turns. It weaves through ambient, progressive house, dubby echoes, and vintage electronics with a confident ease. You’ll hear flashes of Aphex Twin, Saint Etienne, Deadbeat, even Tears For Fears, nostalgia without being stuck in the past.

Natalie’s approach is thoughtful and open-eared, blending the sentimental with the strange, the groovy with the meditative. There’s a sense of motion throughout, like walking through a forest of old machines still humming quietly beneath the ferns.

the dust has only just settled on summer 2025, with cosy season being invited in with a warm embrace and we’re already looking back fondly at the memories made and the dancefloors shared across the past three months. one of those moments is the idyllic kune festival who we will be teaming up with for the next few weeks to share sets and stories from their fifth edition. for the first time ever, they’ve filmed some of these moments to be shared with you all, taking a deeper glimpse into the scenes, sounds and style of this stunning weekend. 

kune is nestled within one of europe’s most unique festival locations, ungdomsøen, a former sea fortress turned cultural playground that is just 30 minutes by boat from copenhagen. historic bunkers become listening rooms, old stone courtyards turn into dancefloors and the sea-facing hills offer a moment of respite from the stimulating surroundings. creating an isolated utopia that fully allows their guests to escape from the hustle and bustle of their normal lives, kune has quietly grown over the last five years, drawing a crowd of open-minded individuals that nurtures and pushes arts and culture forward. this is created through their diverse musical programming that caters to the curious with this year’s lineup featuring loek frey, woody92, peachlyfe, hewan aman, hannah d, sunju hargun, martinou, sybil, shjva, reptant and more alongside a packed arts and activities programme. 

so welcome to the world of kune festival. 

for the first edition of this takeover we have berlin-via-denmark dj and promoter tania just, one of the co-founders of the esteemed party series, fandango. moving to berlin in 2014, tania was introduced to the playful sensibilities and spirited mindset of the city’s nightlife scene. finding her crew who showed her the ropes and all that the city had to offer, tania cut her teeth in the local scene by attending the legendary cocktail d’amore parties at the shuttered griessmuehle, learning everything she needs to know about this new world she was being introduced to. drawing from these influences, tania is known for sleazy basslines, dreamy vocals, and cheeky twists that blur the lines between ‘90s house, early tech house, and progressive cuts.

since moving to berlin, she has gone on to run the gorgeous fandango parties alongside dave murrin and mark gill, which has quickly become a cornerstone in the local scene. i ended up at one of their parties spontaneously a few summers ago, arriving early in the morning to catch ccl warming things up for the day ahead and it was one of my fondest memories of that season, dancing throughout the day and exploring all the cute little nooks their unique location has to offer (kindred spirits with kune perhaps?) 

speaking about kune, this year, tania played the serene beach stage and touching on her relationship with the festival, she says, “i love kune! i first went 4 years ago, and it really opened my eyes to a more open-minded and diverse side of denmark that i had never experienced before. i met a lot of people there who today are close friends of mine, so it meant a lot to be invited to play this year.”

The night had turned cold by the time Camu began, but inside La Cabaña, everything felt suspended: warm light, still bodies, a low hum stretching through wood and pine. People settled into corners, wrapped in layers, quieted by the vibration that marked the start. The music felt transmitted, its slow-moving drones drifting through the wooden walls and into the forest beyond. The sound rolled out like fog under moonlight, patient, opaque, its motion too subtle to measure. It was music to dissolve into.
Minutes became air. The cabin started to tremble. Camu’s sense of space was uncanny, each drone a line drawn in mist, each pause a small release of gravity. Later came the fragments: field recordings, faint acapellas, echoes of the forest replayed from another world. By then, the cabin no longer felt grounded. It was a stationary vessel, hovering somewhere between the trees and the stars, surrounded by invisible energy. Somewhere, just beyond the clearing, Pablo’s bass murmured like thunder in a parallel world. When silence finally returned, it wasn’t emptiness; it was the echo of what had passed through.

Otodojo (Maro Kariya, PhD) is an audiovisual artist based in Detroit, MI.

They weave together sonic stories through field and object recordings, processed vocals, contact-micced materials, and layers of synthetic sounds inspired by the natural world and imagined bio-cybernetic futures.

Their music has been released with labels such as Acid Camp, Mesma, Perimeter Junk, Qeone, Unimatrix Zero, and their album ‘Amphibious / Aural Spirits’ on The Bunker NY has been named one of the best albums of 2023 by MixMag.

In 2018, they launched ‘Microtones’ (microtones.info), an electronic music collective in Ithaca, NY which aims to help community building through music.
