I've always been a massive fan of Italian turbofunk collective Reset! 

I usually feel one step removed from what other electronic artists are trying to achieve in their music - like I can admire what they are doing, but always feel like their music belongs in some club that I would never go to, or needs to be experienced on some kind of drug that I don't take, or confers association with some scene I am not part of.

But when I listen to Reset! I always feel like I am totally on their wavelength and there is a real alignment of values with the more club-centric end of my own music. I hear an honest and unforced love of a party atmosphere, combined with an understanding of funk and groove that reaches back to the 60s, 70s and 80s.  And also the sense that even if you are listening to a one chord loop, it is being made by a true musician who could compose and improvise with skill, not just being confined to the loops and step programming of a bedroom EDM artist.

I was therefore delighted when I ended up knowing the Reset! team personally (via them being friends with Phonat) and now, after helping each other with a few tracks, we have made our first full collaboration together.

As with the companion track to BOYS LIKE BASS - 'GIRLS LIKE DISCO (feat. Birdee)', this track consists of live playing by myself and members of The Young Punx live collective, recorded over several years, structured and produced by a turbofunk don. But where-as GIRLS LIKE DISCO is a straight for the jugular party track, BOYS LIKE BASS is a little more experimental and exploratory. I love the way Reset! took so many of the parts I provided and turned it into an evolving journey that never quite repeats itself and is always going in new directions.

It's been an anthem in my own sets all year, and I hope you enjoy it now.

RESET! - Do It In Style Feat. Keith Murray & Steveland Swatkins

Some old easy listening using samples from a movie soundtrack scored by Ryuichi Sakamoto. It’s a genre shift but something I’ve loved experimenting around with since I heard the music of the late Nujabes. This track features some vocal work done by myself and my friend Sachiko. I’m very surprised at how much attention this got, especially with Call of Duty 4 montage videos haha. Enjoy!

MofoHifi Records are delighted to announce that infamous Italian party collective Reset! Have joined the MofoHifi family for the release of their latest tracks 'Wind Up' and 'Escape'.

Reset! - A 5-man collective of DJs, producers and party promoters based in Milan -- are renowned both for their spectacular and sweaty club nights and for pioneering the 'Turbofunk' genre -- a bass-heavy fusion of disco and electro which has seen massive support from the likes of Justice, Hervé, Annie Mac, A Trak, Crookers and Cassius.

'Wind Up' sees Reset! team up with legendary Jamaican ragga MC Daddy Freddy -- a seminal player in integrating Jamaican vocals into electronic music (and 4 times breaker of the record for world's fastest rapper!). The infectious ragga party anthem is accompanied by an awesome leftfield video shot in Los Angeles by female Italian director Spaghetto. It features a 2 very contrasting Compton Barbeque parties being very literally crashed by a giant (cuddly) spider who has just accidentally killed a unicorn. No, we don't totally understand it either, but we suspect there may be undercurrents of the battle between the ways of good and evil. Make your own mind up!

The flip side track 'Escape' sees Reset! in more exploratory mood taking their Turbofunk stylings on a cross-genre multi-tempo journey that takes in elements of Hip Hop, Acid, ItaloDisco and Jazz while not losing sight of its core anthemic synth hook.

Wind Up / Escape is released exclusively on Beatport on 20th August and on all other digital stores on 17th September.

RESET! is a collective based in Milano, made of 4 djs, producers and promoters.
Whether it’s in the studio, behind the decks or promoting their own nights, Reset! have established themselves as an A-List act, regularly pulling in more than 2000 clubbers to their own infamous parties in Milan and clocking up the air miles playing some of the biggest parties around the world - from Hard in L.A. to Pacha's Closing party in Ibiza - two own tours in Australia and Asia and some big Uk festivals.

Started in 2007 as a party, RESET! became one of the best events in town, gathering a mixed up crowd - from indie rockers to b-boys, old school ravers to students - with its funk-driven electronic music, from Nu Disco to Bassline and everything in between, and taking place in the most different venues: from small underground clubs to wearhouses, from Parco Sempione (with 5000+ people!) to Magazzini Generali, the most prestigious venue in town.
Meanwhile, after developing as the leading alternative electronic music event in Milano, they started to build RESET! as a music project summing up their long time experience as producers. 

Indeed it was in 2009 after playing alongside house legends Cassius that Reset! were invited to rework the French duo's anthemic "Youth, Speed, Trouble, Cigarettes" that got instant support from big djs, remained on Beatport's Indie Dance Top 10 for several weeks and featured on Mixmag cover CD.
Following this breakthrough Reset!’s unmistakable funk yet banging sound has been in constant demand with the boys adding their Italian touch to a string of remixes for the likes of Fatboy Slim, Audio Bullys, Robyn, Fenech Soler, Mad Decent, Bingo Players and once again Cassius, remixing the house classic Cassius 99.

They released music on some of the world's best labels - including 4 EP's on Cheap Thrills and several songs on Southern Fried, Dim Mak, Ministry Of Sound Australia - defining since their very first tunes their signature "Turbofunk" sound (a unique blend of huge basslines and melodic hooks, 70's funk samples and shuffling beats) and gaining an endless list of top supporters like Annie Mac, Armand Van Helden, Madeon, Busy P, Justice's Xavier De Rosnay, Faithless, a steady airplay on BBC1 and several songs on Beatport Top 100.

Their Bosco Delrey remix was included in Mad Decent compilation Vol.1 by Diplo and in an Italian Adidas commercial, while their raving remix for Hervé's “Blaze It” was included in the official Gran Turismo 5 soundtrack.
Late 2011 they developped their unique live show with a full band: seven elements on stage, with drum, guitars, synths, talkbox, turntables, singers and visuals to merge the power of electro with a strong rock attitude.

In 2013 they were signed with SONY Italy, releasing their first single on a major label: "I Need You", supported by a great video shot in LA, a remix competition launched by MTV and and got chosen by the brand JDC for a national TV campaign.

May 20th they released their first full album on SONY MUSIC. 
'We tried to push the boundaries of composing club music with a more musical approach, with a lot of arrangement and vocals, mixing synths with real instruments (saxophones, guitars and talkbox) into more complex songs that keep evolving and changing from beginning to the end, having a broad range of influences - from old school funk to cosmic disco, 70's rock with some prog moments to 90's hip hop - while keeping our solid RESET! sound' , the band says.

The album hosts a great variety of collaborations: from uk new wave legend Paul King to US hip hop veterans Erick Sermon (EPMD) and Keith Murray, MIA's collaborator Afrikan Boy to soul singers Lisa Kekaula (Basement Jaxx), Caprice and Daniel Pearce and some of the most influencial Italian rappers like Guè Pequeno, Noyz Narcos, Clementino, Ensi.
